“Bucket List Trip”
Reviewed 18 October 2013 via mobile

We loved this hotel. Our room was spacious and beautiful. The historic features of the hotel were well kept and gave an impression of stepping back in time - in a good way. The service was wonderful and the restaurant served delicious food - don't miss Summer in a Jar! The park across the street was a lovely vision each morning and all kinds of San Francisco landmarks are within walking distance. We will be back!

The Huntington is an elegant old hotel in a fantastic location. The rooms are comfortable and cozy. The bell service is excellent- friendly and helpful. When we were there, the service elevator was out so it was a long wait for the elevator- we ended up walking from our room on the 5th floor. I assume that's fixed now. You can walk a lot of places from this location- Chinatown, the Theater district, Pacific Heights.

I checked in for a conference and the rooms are extremely small and dated. I asked about the room and the staff couldn't do anything to accommodate. I have a feeling I'm not the first person to say something. At $ 250+ per night this was the worst hotel room I will have stayed in all year. I spend a ton of time traveling for work all over the Country and see a number of nice hotels. The room was beat up, marks all over the walls and furniture, carpet coming up in spots, worn and stained. The bed felt like I was sleeping on a box of rocks. I held off doing my review pending breakfast and it went down from there. I ordered pancakes, sausage and coffee - $ 50. The pancakes were terrible and the syrup watery. The sausage was deemed to be "herbed sausge links". These were definitely frozen and nothing of the sort, just your normal Jimmy Dean style. I will not stay here again and recommend others consider other properties. For the money, you can definitely do better. The hotel is really just a beat up old story book with a nice cover. Once you turn the page it's all downhill from there.

Room Tip: Don't stay here is my best recommendation

Dear DanAmyMA,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I'm very sorry to hear that your experience fell so far beneath your expectations. It's unusual for us to hear that our rooms are extremely small, and I apologize that we weren't able to accommodate you with a larger room. While I don't have specific information on your dates of stay, it's quite possible that we were completely sold out during your visit, and as such weren't able to make other arrangements for you.

Regarding the state of the room, we are set to undergo a renovation soon, and the things you noticed that needed repair will all be addressed at that time. I've addressed your dissatisfaction with breakfast with the restaurant management so they're aware of what you experienced. Again, I'd like to extend my sincere apologies for the overall impression we left you with. It's certainly not the norm for our guests to leave us feeling so dissatisfied, and we regret that that's exactly how you felt when you checked out.

While you've stated in your review that you won't stay here again, we do hope that after our renovation you'll give us a second chance. We're sure that we can change your impression of us, and meet your expectations.

Wishing you all the very best in your future travels...

Sincerely,

Kellie

A charming, historic hotel in a premier location. Be sure to check out the bar. Wonderful sketches and historic cartoons of the local barons...you'll recognize the names. Our room was spacious, comfortable, quiet. The bathroom was modern. Good value on Hotwire.

Room Tip: Top floor, overlooking the park

We shared three rooms in this old world hotel. It was like traveling back in time, the service was great and very charming surrounding. The location was lovely with a beautiful park/plaza across the street from the hotel. That said, they did not have a modern crib for our toddler, it was a tiny old crib. The elevator did not work, we only had one elevator and lastly they really messed up our bill at checkout.
