Staying in the Studio is just like having your own place in San Francisco. The room was spacious, with a sitting area and kitchenette. The bathroom was small and basic, but was adequate. Street noise was minimal and there is a charming courtyard to enjoy the mild San Francisco weather.

In a city where hotel prices are through the roof, this place is a great value. Sort of like a B&B without breakfast but don't need it (plenty of great places within a 5 minute walk). Great location, nice size room, complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Will definitely go back

This is a lovely house just around the corner from Fillmore Ave that has great spacious accommodation with lots of character. We stayed in the studio with a full kitchen and plenty of living space. We were only there overnight but I would definitely return for a longer stay to enjoy the neighbourhood. A great alternative to hotel accommodation

An excellent find! So lovely to stay here for our first visit to San Francisco - much better than staying in an anonymous downtown hotel. Diane very friendly and welcoming - you have to walk through her part of the house to get to some of the rooms she lets and is always ready to stop and chat. We stayed in Robert's room and there is a separate entrance to this at the back of the house (the property is basically two houses joined by a lovely central courtyard). A lovely big room, very comfortable bed, great long wooden table with drawers that had plenty of room to stash our cases (hate staying in rooms where you are constantly having to step over your case). Roomy bathroom with a good hot shower with good water pressure.

The complimentary wine went down very well while we were getting ready to go out in the evening. The local neighbourhood is friendly and loads of different places to eat and drink, too many to mention. A small supermarket and liquor store on the corner for any nibbles, tea or coffee, bottled water etc if you want that. A small kitchenette and fridge is just outside the room.

A great location - bus stops just around the corner and there is an express bus that goes straight down onto Market Street in the city at peak times.

Only two downsides for us - minor quibbles - the bin men collect the rubbish at the back around 5am so don't forget earplugs! Clever old me had my earplugs in at night but my husband didn't and was woken on two mornings. The second, as I say minor ,quibble is the café where you get your 50% off in lieu of breakfast being served on site doesn't open on weekdays until 9am. Which is a time, as any self respecting tourist with a jammed itinerary will say, is when you want to be on the way having already breakfasted. It does open at 8am Saturday and Sunday though and we did have breakfast here on the Saturday which was our check out day and when we were not keeping to such a tight schedule. And I have to say that breakfast was pretty scrummy!

Would definitely recommend a stay here. Its not called Artists Inn for nothing by the way - packed with fabulous art on the walls; some we liked, some we didn't - but all interesting.

Artists Inn is a cozy home away from home in San Francisco's Fillmore district. The area is residential with numerous shops and good restaurants within walking distance including a very hip Starbucks within 3 blocks. The owner, Denise is a great host. Her husband, now deceased, was an artist and his work fills the inn with beauty. The Inn is on a deep lot which goes back to the alley, so you can come and go through the front door or out the back. In the middle between the front and back house is a lovely courtyard great for a glass of wine in the evening. The beds are very comfortable and the place is quiet. You have a lot more privacy than many inns which I especially enjoy. The cost is much more reasonable than SF hotels and you can park on the street if you have a car. I almost hate to share...pls don't book up my room for my next visit.
