Owner description: Thomas Wolfe's childhood home, immortalized in his 1929 novel, "Look Homeward Angel," is preserved intact as a lasting monument to one of the 20th century's most prominent writers. The house, originally operated as a boardinghouse by his mother, retains most of its original furnishings and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Tours of the 29 room house are offered hourly. The adjacent visitor center and museum highlight Wolfe's life and major literary accomplishments.

This is located downtown, but pretty easy to get to. If you are a book lover, you'll get a kick out of it. You can pick-up a copy of Wolfe's "Look Homeward Angel", after the tour. And, if you are adventurous, you can then drive down I-26 to Hendersonville ... follow Hwy. 64W to the edge of town ... there you'll find Oakdale Cemetary where Wolfe's famous angel resides.

This is a boarding house in the middle of Asheville and is preserved to how life was in Thomas Wolfe's era. If you are a literacy buff you can see first hand the day to day influences that provided the framework for Thomas Wolfe's writings. If you are a history buff, then you can experience the blue collar experience in that era juxtaposed to the Biltmore House of the rich and famous. It was a much better experience before hotels and condominiums sprung up around it but it is still an interesting visit at very little cost.

very informative and low cost! great opportunity to learn a little more about one of Asheville's favorite sons. Thomas Wolfe used many of his memories from here to create characters for "Look Homeward Angel". Downtown right next to the Renaissance hotel
