THE ROOM -The king bed room we had on the 10th floor was amazing. Ample space, pristinely clean, beautiful lighting, and perfect view of the water. Good air quality, nice linens, comfortable mattress. The travertine-tiled bathroom was huge, and right above the bathtub there is a sliding partition that opens onto the head of the bed -design is difficult to explain but I've uploaded photos of room 1043. Pay wifi though, so beware and prepared. I had Verizon LTE and reception was decent but occasionally spotty.

NEARBY -Check out Flour bakery + cafe at 12 Farnsworth St, it's right across the Congress St. bridge. This is a perfect breakfast or lunch stop! It's great if you are heading to the convention center, or even before heading out to sightseeing. For serious coffee enthusiasts, try Barrington Coffee Roasting company. Siam Thai across the street from the main entrance great for a quick cheap meal.

THE SERVICE -The only drawback was that the staff was not especially friendly, only cordial, perhaps because we were not dressed up, which is a shame. We arrived on the evening of a huge event starting in the morning at the very near-by Convention Center. I was surprised that there was only 1 person at the check-in desk, so there was a wait. Check-out on the last day of the convention had an even longer line. Luggage check service was very curt.

Room Tip: Room 1043 is a king bed with huge bathroom (both shower and tub). Fantastic view of water, highly re...

We stayed back in August 2012 and I'm just realizing I never wrote a review. As others have said, the locations is excellent. Within minutes of walking to South Station, which is a major hub. We had a street view room and loved watching the city, especially in the morning coming alive and at night with the skyline lights.

I never heard a siren in our two nights there, and I am a very light sleeper. We splurged and ordered room service breakfast, it was wonderful both in service and quality. The beds were comfortable and the shower was fine.

One of the nicest things about the location is that the new Greenway is right across the street. Fountains, carousel, food, a beautiful peaceful area in the middle of the city. We walked up and down the greenway from South Station to the North End, stopping at Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall along the way. Lots of good food trucks at South Station and over at Government Center (try Bon Me, Clover, and Mei Mei's Street Kitchen!)

The reason this didn't get five stars from me is because of the typical high prices for wifi and parking and restaurant (which we didn't try). At these prices, wifi should be included; it is obviously just a cash cow for them and its very transparent. Don't pay it. Plenty of free wifi in the area - even the Greenway!

Chose this hotel because it is really close to the financial district and within easy walking distance to and from the office while in Boston.

Service was pretty good, location was great, and room was quiet, large and comfortable.

I didn't eat at any of the on site restaurants in the evenings, but did get room service a couple of times. The service was good, but the food was average.

Breakfasts were pretty good though, good selection and nice view.

I ususally stay at another Boston hotel however due to a conference I had to move down the street to this hotel. Looks are deceiving i have to say. It is a nice place however the ambiance was not enough to cover the issues. 1st, $14.95 for wireless internet service. Not sure what it provided that rated that charge. Breakfast for 2, $84.00 + gratuity for french toast, coffee, juice and milk. Nothing special there but we didn't want to chance maxing out a CC eating dinner there. The beds, hard as a rock and no combination of pillows resulted in any level of comfort. My friend noted the same and vowed never to stay there. Room location, well the Fire department is directly across the street. I counted 8 times during the evening when the fire alarms went off and the trucks headed out. So between the hard mattress, uncomfortable pillows and the fire engines, not much sleep. Bar service was good. Bartenders were attentive and courteous. Same cannot be said for the waitresses. Had to get our own drinks after waiting for 5-10 minutes in a sparsely crowded seating area. Then they act as if your bothering them.

On the positive side, the front desk staff was friendly and courteous. location is good (except for the fire engines) and convenient to public transportation and local attractions.

Overall poor value, i'll stick with my usual hotel or change my dates.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room that is not facing the fire department

Dear DocHowie,

Thank you for sharing your recent experience at InterContinental Boston. First and foremost, please accept my sincerest apologies for the poor service you experienced at RumBa. Our hotel prides itself on providing attentive service and in this instance we clearly fell short. I have shared the details of your experience with our food and beverage management team and we are taking the necessary steps to ensure a similar incident does not happen in the future.

Furthermore, we understand the importance of a restful night of sleep and are sorry to hear that you did not sleep well in our beds. Due to our prime location on Atlantic Avenue, we are situated across the street from the downtown firehouse. Many of our guests love staying in a room facing the street, as it provides a front-row seat to the sights and sounds of our vibrant city. For those of our guests who are light sleepers, we recommend requesting a room away from the street. We appreciate your feedback on our wireless Internet charge, restaurant prices and bed quality and will discuss your comments at our next hotel quality meeting.

Thank you again for your feedback, as it gives us an opportunity to improve the overall experience of our guests. We hope you consider staying with us again.

Sincerely,

Michael Ditterline
