The purpose of this trip was to watch the World Championship Figure Skating. The location of the hotel is great. Close to subway, walking distance to most of the sight seeing places in Boston. We had a wonderful view over the city and the public gardens. Great service, good food. The hotel is fairly expensive but great quality. We would normally not go to such an exclusive place but as this was a special trip we wanted to have a luxury place to stay. Great hotel

What an awful place.
The service is appalling. The staff are rude, and just do not care about their guests. Housekeeping are a joke. The staff working at the bar downstairs may as well be robots.

Housekeeping lost a pair of my (almost brand new) shoes which they took to have polished then, after numerous follow ups as to where my shoes were, tried to tell me they thought another guest had stolen them?!? They did not seem to care that they had lost my shoes. They clearly don't check items in and out when they take them, so didn't know my shoes were missing until I told them. Then I had to keep calling them to find out what was happening. We were offered a small credit on our stay as compensation, but no one took responsibility and there was certainly no apology or feeling that they wanted us to leave happy. It all seemed like so much bother to fix a problem THEY had caused.

The hotel is pretty, old but tastefully decorated. The room was fine, and clean enough, though the bathroom sink wouldn't drain. But the service completely detracts from this.

BostonTaj, Manager at Taj Boston, responded to this reviewResponded 12 April 2016

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your experience at the Taj. I am very sorry to see that your experience was tarnished by an unfortunate event. Our team takes great pride in providing excellent service as you may see by the many reviews offered on Tripadvisor. To know that you feel that you received anything but great service causes the team great dismay. I am surprised to read that you felt the credit the hotel provided was not satisfactory. It was our impression that you felt the credit given was acceptable. I am sorry that you left the property feeling that we did not meet your expectation of compensation. If you would prefer, I would be more than happy to discuss the matter with you further. I may be reached at taj.boston@tajhotels.com and do hope we have the opportunity to speak. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you in the future.

Respectfully,

Corinna Luebbe

My daughter and I stayed here for four days in late March. The hotel has a wonderful, classic European style ambience. The location across from the Boston Public Gardens and the start of the Freedom Trail can not be beat. The surrounding neighborhood is upscale shops and restaurants in beautiful 19th century buildings. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room service was expensive, )as usual!), but fast and good quality. Room was quiet and comfortable. Hope to go back when the gardens are in bloom!

Visiting siblings studying in Boston this was a perfect location.
Service was friendly and rooms are new, clean, good linens and towels and all in perfect shape.
Still have not visited the rooftop brunch, will review soon.
Will come again.
