There aren't many California State Parks that afford you the chance to spend the night in luxurious surroundings. But a stay at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Restaurant in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park provides that opportunity. The late1820s pueblo and second-story hotel have undergone a $6.5 million restoration and been brought back to life as a bed and breakfast.

The ten rooms have been painstakingly restored with period furniture and Bradbury & Bradbury wallpapers. Each room is indifferent but what you'll always find are comfy pillow-top beds, cozy robes, and charming amenities. Homemade scones, OJ, and coffee served to your door each morning or in the historic dining room.

Wake-up overlooking the Plaza de las Armas and explore historic buildings in the park. An old wagon was, without a doubt, the most popular spot for photo-ops. The hotel restaurant is wonderful and includes a lovely courtyard...and they serve some interesting cocktails whose origins also date back to the 1800s -- sample the Bourbon Smash! This is not the Casa Bandini of old. While the menu includes some Mexican favorite, it is so much more. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and weekend brunch. Ask about the monthly Victorian tea especially if you love finger sandwiches and genteel pastimes.

San Diego State Historic Park is an easy touchdown from the airport. Less than five miles away, it's an quick trip back in time from the airport by taxi or rental car. Great shopping, entertainment and dining are a short walk inside or out of the park boundaries. Not to mention museums that showcase the history of San Diego dating back to the early 1800s.

Wedding groups can take over the entire hotel. The courtyard is a perfect setting for all aspects of your special event including the ceremony and reception. The hotel has an event coordinator available to help with all aspects of that special day.

Oh, yes, you can see SeaWorld fireworks from the balcony. Bonus!!
