1871 House is a find! We had a large, spacious studio -- huge by NYC standards. Our bed and linens were comfortable and cozy. We also had a couch for lounging, a table for dining, and a kitchenette.

The location is excellent -- situated near Lexington, Park Ave., 5th Ave, and Madison Ave. 1871 House also felt very safe.

The management was so accommodating and gracious.

Thank you, for your kindness and hospitality!

We spent 6 nights here in October, staying in the Madison suite of rooms on the 4th floor. Great location, just a block or so from the subway and two blocks from Central Park.
The staff was very kind and helpful.
The rooms were FANTASTIC. We had a ton of space and a great little kitchen where we could store leftovers or make ourselves breakfast in the morning.
One note: the bathroom tub did have a leak, but the shower worked fine. A plumber came while we were there, trying to fix the issue.

Also, very important, there is no elevator; we walked up and down 4 flights of narrow stairs each time we left or returned. This didn't bother us, but people who have difficulty climbing stairs would definitely have a problem.

We will definitely be back in NYC and 1871 House will be our first choice for all our visits.

We enjoyed our stay at 1871 House very much. The Knickerbocker Suite is comfortable and roomy, plenty of room for three, nicely furnished, the beds are comfortable, and it’s very quiet with no street noise. They warn you about the low ceiling on the stairs and in the shower, it isn’t a problem, the bathroom is small but manageable, you just take turns. The location is perfect, near the underground and easy access to everything, you can walk to some of the sights on Upper East Side and Bloomingdales. You can get breakfast in several places nearby, including Le Pain Quotidien, we found Alice’s Tea Cup Chapter II great; for dinner Tony di Napoli is very good. There is plenty of information provided by 1871 House about places to eat, which explains a large part of the paperwork mentioned by other reviews. The staff are very helpful, especially Zoe whom we mostly dealt with. At the time when most New York B&Bs have been sadly forced out of business by tightening NY regulations due to Airbnb, 1871 House, which isn’t B&B, provides a great alternative for those who prefer comfort of a house and personal touch to that of a hotel. Thank you 1871 House for a comfortable stay.

We loved everything about our stay at 1871 House. Our suite felt like a home away from home. The room looked exactly as pictured: bright, airy, clean, well-maintained and quiet, and we enjoyed having our own little kitchen. We appreciated the independent feeling of staying here, and actually felt like we had our own little NY apartment. The location on a quiet street in the Upper East Side location is walking distance to Central Park, the museum district, restaurants, shopping and transit. The staff and owners are friendly, helpful and responsive. 1871 House is a gem and we look forward to our next stay!

We absolutely loved the 1871 House!!!! I can't say enough about this delightful GEM! My sisters and I stayed in this lovely B & B for 4 nights this past weekend. We could not have been more pleased with our perfect accommodations! It is beautifully decorated, well maintained and very clean. We reserved the both the Front and Back Library, when rented together are adjoining rooms with a small kitchenette. This allowed us to sit, relax and visit comfortably when not touring the city. Far more comfortable and quiet than a hotel room. Located in a charming, quiet neighborhood on a tree lined street, 1871 House is close to the subway, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum, and Bloomingdales. The location couldn't have been more convenient and lovely! There are a couple of markets nearby as well as plenty of restaurants. Special thanks to Zoe who was just delightful! She wonderfully helpful, kind and friendly throughout our stay. I will definitely tell everyone I know traveling to NYC about 1871 House and I hope to return myself very soon.

Room tip: Front and Back Library are adjoining which is perfect for families.
