We were walking down 5th Avenue during the Veterans' Day Parade and stopped in to the BB. It is a small place but we were very pleasantly surprised at the excellent food. We all had different versions of the soup and sandwich lunch and all enjoyed our food. I highly recommend it. Good value as well.

I visited Bar Breton for lunch as part of a week-long culinary experience/tour. Our guide knew the chef/owner of Bar Breton, which may have been why we got such personal treatment by the owner - Chef Cyril Renaud.
The chef started us with 2 amuse bouches each - his crepe version of a croque monsieur (like a grilled ham and cheese) - which were very good. They were topped with a flavored homemade mayo that was very good. Next we had a huge appetizer of buckwheat crepe with house-smoked salmon. The crepe was rolled around a savory filling and the roll was topped with smoked salmon and micro greens. It was delicious!
Most of the group ordered a fish dish for the main, but I had a duo of chicken - marinated breast and confit thigh. It was good though the breast was slightly overdone. All of the flavors were nice, though.
We were not supposed to get dessert but the chef brought us 6 desserts to share and sample. They were all very rich and delicious.
I would say we each were served at least $60-$70 in food and wine - for lunch, no less! - which is more than I would ever spend on my own. Once we were finished, Chef Renaud sat with us and answered questions and spoke of his restaurant and career. It was a amazing experience. Our guide was constantly giving us details to flesh out the chef's stories. It was a rare opportunity.
The restaurant itself is polished and intimate. The staff was attentive and amazing. I am told by some in the group that live in NYC that the location is a little off the beaten path, but it wasn't but a block or two from a subway station - so it should be accessible to anyone.

I've eaten at this restaurant twice in one year and the food is good. The selection of beer and wine is also very good. Service is very friendly and casual. But the pricetag is high, very high. Tonight, I've had a small salad and a duo of chicken and the check, tax and tip included came to $39.25 !!! No beer, no wine, nothing special. It's expensive for what you get.

We loved this restaurant/bar...so much that we just keep going back. The buckwheat crepes are to die for, the selection of beers and wine is excellent. It has class & flair but at the same time feels like a humble environment. Even though we were tourists we instantly felt like it was our local as the staff are so friendly. We have had lunch here a couple of times and dinner once. We did not have one problem and left smiling every time. Very memorable meals! Well done to this est.
Good value for money!
