I really recommend this area if you prefer staying away from the business of midtown. It was the perfect base as it gave us access to all of Lower Manhattan, as well as several stops on the subway so that it was easy to go up to Midtown or over to Brooklyn.

Loads of nice restaurants and brunch spots. Recommend the pancakes in Bubby's, the bagels at Zucker's bagels, and the pizza slices at Donna Bella pizza (sloppy but so good!)

I like visiting TriBeCa. It's has a lot of character and there are some nice areas to walk through. Plenty of delicious restaurants and bars in the area. It can be a little dead at night though.

This is one of NYC's great little neighborhoods. Its different than midtown and should be on your list of places to visit when you are in NYC. Its where a lot of stars live. Walk around, maybe you will see one.

It's an easy ride in for us in the off hours. Just a few minutes ride after exiting the Holland tunnel takes us to our destination. Coming in for just a day trip visiting with family or more often staying in one of the great hotels for couple of days is something we enjoy.
The neighborhood is safe, lots of young families siting in the restaurants on the outside patios or enjoying the parks. It is a very lively neighborhood especially nice to visit in the summer. Love the boutique stores, pastry shops, great restaurants and parks.
A short walk to the Hudson river provides a nice change of scenery ...and a nice change from the midtown overrun by tourists .
