Owner description: Fashionable neighborhood (so named because it is a TRIangle BElow CAnal Street) of homes and shops.

is what it means. Some 20 years ago not so attractive address in NYC, today becomes an upscale neighborhood. We were exploring the streets of this area and Greenwich village. Both are very attractive, you won't find almost any tourist attractions, but ordinary every day living with many cafes, restaurants, bars,...great to people watch.

Walked by this neighborhood on our way to the freedom tower. Nice buildings with some history. Good restaurants close

Very tired looking restaurant now. Quiet, very expensive for what it was. In and out in about an hour, food arrives so quickly, it was a Friday evening and we were back at our hotel by 9pm, very disappointing
Would we go back? .... No

A great area. Very cool. Lots of nice restaurants. Interesting shops and buildings. But it's not cluttered. You can walk the streets without having to bump into people.

Easy access to other areas of Manhattan. You can walk south to the financial district or north to Soho and Flatiron. (We actually walked all the way to Grand Central which wasn't too far). And the less energetic among you can just jump the Subway. There are various stations on Canal Street. So access to other areas is easy.

But what's great about this area is that you dont necessarily feel you are in Manhattan. It's much detached from the insanity of Midtown, Fifth Avenue, Times Square etc. The vibe is just so much quieter but none the worse for that.

I strongly recommend that anyone who wants a Manhattan base should stay here. And try the Roxy Hotel for a roof over your head (see seperate review - stayed there for our honeymoon - absolutely excellent)
