Our appetizers, entrees and cocktails were all delicious. Unfortunately, the service was not good. Servers were friendly when we could get their attention, but getting any attention was a struggle. We had to wait a considerable time to get water, and menus. We also had to wait a long time to get our check. No one even asked how our food was. It was strange since there seemed to be a lot of staff in the restaurant.

I believe Marea added another Michelin star between our booking and our meal. It was not difficult to see why. Service was impeccable and the menu was outstanding. Barely enough time to consider the wide range of options. The selection of fish starters was immense. Not too sure how long it would take to peruse the wine list fully, but our choices were both superb. Depending on budget, this may be considered expensive but I would much rather give a few lesser places a miss and truly enjoy the Marea experience.

Was in NYC for 24 hours and went to Marea for dinner based on a friend's recommendation. We were seated promptly for our 10:30 reservation, and our drink and food orders were taken in timely fashion, as would be expected at any Michelin restaurant.

Our appetizers were brought to the table soon thereafter, and both the scampi crudo and octopus were good. But this is when our experience sharply declined, and in reading other reviews, it appears service can be very hit or miss; not acceptable for a restaurant of this caliber, and probably the worst service of any Michelin restaurant we have visited.

Our two pasta entrees took over an hour to reach our table. Not once were we checked on by servers, and it wasn't until I started glancing around that another server (not ours) took notice of our predicament. Our server then apologized for the delay once the dishes were brought out, and the entrees were mediocre at best. But that was the last we ever saw of our server, as another who we hadn't seen all night appeared to have taken over. There was no transition introduction or explanation, and this server's demeanor was not becoming of such a restaurant. By this time, tables that had sat one hour after we had were already wrapping up their meals.

We skipped dessert feeling there was no need to drop any more cash for such an experience, and then spoke to the gentleman at the host stand on the way out to discuss what had taken place. He apologized and said we would be taken care of on our next visit, but we live on the west coast and won't be in NYC for a while, and at this no other "compensation" was offered.

For anyone who claims this was their best Michelin experience in the world, do yourself a favor and visit Spain and Italy. There you'll eat ten times better at a fraction of the cost.
