Very entertaining and delightful! This is not an epic production like Phantom. However, it is also very enjoyable, just in a different kind of way. The musical is interactive and somewhat personal with lots of acrobatics, great music, and humor. Sorry to see it end.
A return trip for us, this time upstairs where it was not as mind boggling as last time.
Glad this has been revived as it is a lovely story and better as restaged this time.
Saw Pippin in the 70s. Didn't think I would like a female in Ben Vereen's part or the circus atmosphere, but it was outstanding. Josh Kaufman from The Voice was a real treat in the title role. His voice is unbelievable and he also participated in circus acrobatics. Every actor was well cast and exceptional! I saw Joel Grey and Liza Minelli in Cabaret back in the day and this cast and show compares favorably.
The plot is thin and little more than an excuse to showcase acrobats and tumblers but the energy level and quality of performance superseded any concerns over plot. The older singer was fabulous. It's run on Broadway end early January 2015.
The Music Box theater is lovely and intimate. The musical is timeless. This incarnation is innovative and fresh. The most talented cast including Josh Kaufman, Carly Hughes, Charlotte d'Amboise, Rachael Bay Jones and the LEGEND herself, Ms. Priscilla Lopez take this show to levels that even the composer could not have imagined. While remaining true to Mr. Fosse's choreography, they elevate the theater aspect of the troupe of players and make it a true spectacle. While I don't really like the changes in lyrics, I do have to begrudge that they lend themselves to the new, fresh take on the show. The acrobatics of the "dance" numbers is breathtaking. It is a pity the show is closing soon. Get to see this while you still have a chance. It's worth it for sure.
Great updated version of the 70s musical. Might not want to bring children under 12...
