Without question the worst piece of very dated theatre we saw on our recent trip. A Tony? Not for the cast we saw! There is one redeeming number in the first act but the rest a total waste of time and money. But the audience seems to love it. Unless you've grown up on this one, I'd take a pass.
What fun! I decided to travel down to NYC over Christmas vacation because I became a great fan of Josh Kaufman while watching the Voice. I really didn't know what I was in for, not knowing much about the play. I was very pleasantly surprised. The cast was excellent, the acrobatics was breathtaking. It was great fun, for all ages! The only downside is that the play is now closed.
I had the chance to see Pippin before it closed on Broadway and loved every minute of it! I am sorry that it closed before others got a chance to see it....but if the traveling troup comes to your area, I would recommend the show to be seen....there is so much going on in the show between the acrobatics, the storyline and the choreography...I cant wait until it comes to my area so I can see it again...I know I missed so much the first time around!!!
This was a clever musical and good ending. The male lead was a little weak however and this made it a little disappointing. Overall however, enjoyable.
I was amazed at how good this performance was. Suitable for children with a few innuendos. Cast was unbelievable!
Since I have seen Pippin many times in various productions (high school, college, local theater), and know the soundtrack by heart, I am familiar with the story line. I've read a few reviews from folks that were not sure of the story - yes, it is helpful to know the story in advance but not necessary. The new revival is NOTHING like the original 70's production. Same music but the acrobatics and circus theme are jaw-dropping. The show is fun and funny. A lot of adult humor. Such talent on this stage - singing, dancing, acrobatics, magic! We had seen this production in previews with a different Pippin and were very impressed. But Josh Kaufman (winner of the Voice, season 6) as Pippin was excellent! Since Pippin is closing very soon, I would strongly recommend getting there to see this gem before it's gone!
