Tao is a classic in NY, not surprising its high quality and unique atmosphere. We enjoyed a 20 people lunch at the 2nd floor private room, still open to the cool main space but with some need it privacy and allowed for some conversation. Starters were excellent (shrimp and lobster roll, tuna sashimi) maybe portions a bit small...but then mains are large besides being delicious.

There's no denying, the food served at Tao is well worth it. I had a feeling though, that the owners went a step too far trying to maximize the demand for their restaurant.
The tables are crammed together tightly with people shuffling in between all the time. The background music is hard to distinguish in the conversation noise (and the other way around). Naturally, service suffers too - some of our orders were lost/forgotten and drink refills were inconsistent.
They should also reconsider the 'serviced' restrooms concept, I noticed it was making some guests uncomfortable.
I believe the restaurant should either upgrade the experience - or alternatively, seriously reconsider the pricing.

Incredible high ceilings and decor which makes you feel like your in a movie. A list service. Food was delish but not worth the price whatsoever. Be prepared to pay for the atmosphere and not the quantity of the food. The pork potstickers and chicken gyoza best. Beef was a waste of time - not marinated and slightly chewy. Sea bass which is their signature was divine , melted in your mouth. Left feeling satisfied , would return.

This is one of my favorite spots in NYC. Great for trying different plates and sharing from their small plates menu. It is not quiet at all. They have a lounge prior to walking into the restaurant, so you must be okay with speaking a little louder than usual. Would still recommend.

The food here is delightful. Reservations are definitely recommended because it is a very popular restaurant. I had the scallops and they melted in your mouth. This is definitely a place for a special dinner.
