Description: The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.

We loved this place! Had a delicious lunch before seeing an off broadway play right next door. I had mushroom ravioli;which was to die for! And the escargot was prepared perfectly! Service and ambiancecwere also excellent.

The food is always delightful at Josephine's, with ample portions and impeccable service by seasoned waiters. Not to mention the old world charm and pianist playing show tunes. I don't normally enjoy a piano bar, but their choice of old show tune music post theatre matinee, leaves me in another world !!! Since I don't eat meat, my personal favorite entree is their salmon. I'm not a fan of kale-- which accompanies the dish on the menu--and they are never reticent to substitute with hericot vert. Carrot soup and black tiger shrimp pasta also memorable. Desserts are heavenly. Lemon creme brûlée served with a surprise portion of raspberry sherbet just heavenly. This restaurant is perfect for those who are done with trendy locations and opting for somewhere authentic!

The service was wonderful, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was exquisite. This was a wonderful experience for our party of eight. All patrons of our party agreed their meals were prepared exactly to their liking. The piano serenaded flawlessly with the exceptional atmosphere of the restaurant. The agreement to make another reservation became topic once we exited the restaurant. This is now my favorite restaurant for a great night out amongst friends, and I plan on working my way through the entire menu. BRAVO!

We have most often dined at Chez Josephine over the years as a pre theatre spot.
It has always offered a nice atmosphere including a piano player. The food has been
consistently good . We were especially pleased the other evening to have found the menu to be changed for the summer and decided the food was better than ever. The service is great. The managers make you feel most welcome and appreciated as a customer. The wine list is very good as well. Pre fixe is $38 p/p which includes several choices of an appetizer, 3 entree choices and a choice of two desserts. It's not a real inexpensive meal, but moderate for NYC . It's a nice place to go out for couples whether it's pre or post theatre or just a nice evening out for dinner in the city. Our family did a brunch there several years ago which we all enjoyed too. We'll have to try that again in the future.

In the heart of the theatre district, this charming French restaurant offers very good food, excellent service, and reasonable prices. I had the duck, and it was terrific. Live piano music and attractive decor made for a very enjoyable pre-theatre experience, without breaking the bank.
