We came to NYC for our honeymoon. Sugar Hill Harlem Inn was an excellent choice of accommodations. Our room was the Miles Room. As everyone else has said, the beds are comfortable, the linens are nice, the rooms are tastefully decorated, and everything is clean. My husband was pleased to have satellite tv, too. Not to mention that the price of staying here is very reasonable as far as NYC comes.

The neighborhood was better than I expected it to be. I felt a little uncomfortable walking after around 10 PM, but we didn’t actually experience any problems. To echo the previous reviewers, the subway is close, and it is a 15-20 minute ride to most places within Manhattan.

The only downfall I can see with staying here is that there is a lot of traffic noise (sirens, taxis honking, etc.). The noise level is annoying when you’re laying in bed but not loud enough to prevent sleeping. However, as I learned from previous trips to NYC, that is just part of the experience. If you don’t like it, you’re going to have to stay in a huge hotel way up in the top.

Overall, I would recommend Sugar Hill Harlem to anyone visiting NYC. You will be able to stay in a slower-paced, historic area of Manhattan but still be close to all the sights. You will be comfortable staying there, and the room will be within budget.

What a delightful Inn. We stayed in a suite the first night before we could get in our room for the next four nights. The suite was unbelieveably roomy, the top floor of the entire Brownstone. We were so pleased with the linens and the decor. We were also pleased with our single room-the Sachmos room. The bath room was huge with a courtyard attached. We definitely recommend this Inn and plan to return each time we come to the City.

We just came back from a great stay at the Sugar Hill Harlem Inn. We spent 6 days there, in Josephine's room. The room was nice and roomy, spotlessly clean with a nice, solid bed. Free cable and wifi internet, which was very useful. The kitchen that we thought would be in the room was closed off by a new wall because keeping it there would hugely increase the property tax bill. We could sympathize with that and hadn't planned to use it anyway. Some of the other rooms do seem to have kitchens, but the information on the website hasn't caught up yet with the work that has been done of late, so if you really want a kitchen make sure you contact Jeremy, the owner, before booking. Only point of critique could be that the facilities of the room next door, including the kitchen, were right next door to our room, and we could hear and smell (the cooking anyway) everything our neighbors were doing. Not really something we minded, except for one night when our neighbors made a shrimp dinner, the smell of which my wife (who is allergic to sea food) didn't quite appreciate. But that is the only slightly annoying moment we had during our entire, very pleasant stay. Oh, and did I mention the great breakfasts cooked by Bernadette, who was also a great person to chat with?
As for the area around Sugar Hill Harlem Inn, it's a residential area with nice old homes and it felt very safe and "normal", with mostly college students on the streets walking to and from City College which is only a couple of blocks away. So people who get scared at hearing the word "Harlem" really don't have a thing to worry about.

We enjoyed our stay in this charming B&B in Harlem. We stayed in Josephine's room, and our room was very tastefully decorated. We also appreciated the artwork depicting jazz legends and others who were influential in the Harlem Renaissance. Our bed was delightfully comfortable, and we were grateful for the modern conveniences such as the wireless internet connection, TV and DVD, and kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator. We also took advantage of our Harlem location, which allowed us to experience a part of Manhattan that not as many tourists frequent. Overall, we had a great experience.

Myself and my sister stayed here for 8 nights in November. I have always stayed in Harlem whenever i visit New york. The location of Sugar Hill is perfect- its near the subway ( i think 145th). Being females from England posed no problems when travelling late at night by ourselves.
Harlem has its own energy, which this house also has. We were lucky enough to be able to experience both accommodation and loved the service that was provided- basically you were left to your own devices but shoudl you have a question you could always consult Jeremy or Bernadette. They also allow you use of their internet.
FANATASTIC- Definately going back!!
