This is a classic NYC hotel, rates are great and its a bit old but it just fits with the vibe. Rooms are pristine clean and the staff is always attentive. It is a great hotel for celebrity spotting. You won't regret it

The Carlyle is under construction so room location is important. We had one across from hallway construction which was ugly. The room we selected was a "Deluxe King" but what we got was a shabby small room. Carpet had threads coming out of it, furniture paint was chipped, underpad stuck out more than an inch from both carpets. Staff was nice but the experience was not like our previous experiences. Do not recommend, try the Surrey

Room Tip: location important, be away from construction, ask for another room if you don't like assignment, we did not do that

One of the shabbiest, most dysfunctional and overrated hotels I have ever stayed in, anywhere in the world. From the moment of arrival (room not ready until 5pm!) to the ugly, mismatched and dated bedroom furniture, miniscule bathroom, violently noisy 1950s era air-conditioning, inedible in-room dining, bizarre policy of using only one of four elevators at any one time, every golden rule of the high-end hotel business is broken, repeatedly. This time-warp establishment is 25 years overdue a renovation and ought to be immediately closed and the entire staff removed and replaced.

Dear Harmarka,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. While we wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Wishing you all the best.

Sincerely,
The Carlyle Family

New York hospitality is at its finest in this classic hotel where no one is asking you where you came from to log into a file but because they really remember you as a guest. The bar is a classic and the staff is kind and personable.

This hotel has a jazz club that we thought would be fun to check out - we walked in and it was packed, no seats and standing room only. We ordered a drink, sipped on it for 5 minutes and left. For that I was charged $317 - turns out there was a $150 per person cover charge that we were not advised of until it came time to pay. It seemed a little suspicious that they took my credit card the moment we walked in, and now I know why. I raised a dispute with the credit card company and gave the Carlyle every opportunity to make this right, even offering to give them a hundred dollars for the 2 drinks - but no, they wanted all the money and refused to give even a partial refund. So having tried to be reasonable I feel it necessary to warn other potential patrons that this place is little better than a clip joint. Avoid the Carlyle, it's the kind of place that used to give New York hotels a bad name.
