My husband and I travel frequently. He is an IHG member so we booked this hotel. It looked beautiful, different, and well situated. It was a birthday weekend surprise that I looked forward to.
Let's start with the pros:
Great location to Philly historical attractions Liberty Bell, independence hall etc... Decor was eclectic, warm, quaint. Room is cozy and bright. Some of the staff at front desk were kind, server offered to find us ice, was sweet and helpful, and some of the staff were courteous. Convenient walk to restaurants (wear comfy shoes).
Cons:
Parking: Unless you want to pay $55 for valet, you have to park 3 blocks down, approx 1/4 mile walk. They give you a QR Code to pay for parking but NEVER tell you that you need to pay BEFORE you enter the garage. My husband entered the traditional way, paid via the QR Code and couldn't leave. So we had pay TWICE using a normal ticket to leave the garage. Should have used valet at this point and saved all the aggravation or park in one of the few closer parking garages we saw along the way? Doubt we'll get the extra pmt refunded.
Room: BRING EAR PLUGS. People have no respect for others sleeping at the wee hours of the night. Avoid rooms on 10th floor with wedding parties, you'll be awake all night hearing yelling, doors slamming, and people stumbling down the hall...My husband and I travel frequently. Room: BRING EAR PLUGS. People have no respect for others sleeping at the wee hours of the night. Avoid rooms on 10th floor with wedding parties, you'll be awake all night hearing yelling, doors slamming, and people stumbling down the hall as they return to their rooms. Cars and motorcycles with music, horns, and exhaust pipes BLARING all the way to our room. Paper thin walls I can only presume. We also had 1 set of towels and face cloths, my husband and I had to share. At the price we paid, it would have been nice to have 2 face cloths lol. Guess were lucky to have toilet paper!
No ice to be found. Hubby had to go to 3 different floors looking for ice. Finally, TV in our room didnt work, it turned on but features such as 'menu' or 'guide' to select a movie to watch while we got ready were 'unavailable'. So much for that!
Bar: walked in and walked right out. It was so LOUD I don't think I could hear myself think. I can handle loud restaurants, this was obnoxious. Plenty of local, high end restaurants with awesome drinks that doesn't require screaming to have a conversation.
AREA: Apparently trash day is Saturday. Trash strewn along the sidewalks made for a very unappealing and stench filled walk to Penns landing. Half of the businesses are boarded up (thank you Gov. Wolfe) and the area felt depressed, run down, and unkept. We did the DARK NIGHT Philly tour which includes untold, raunchy stories of our great historical local figures. I'll leave a review on their site if you're interested. Toured all local historical attractions and the fun stories 'with a twist' along the way made for an entertaining evening.
All in all it was ok. Were pretty tolerant and forgiving people, but wont likely return. Disappointing trip to say the least, too many snafus at the hotel.More
