Owner description: Since opening in August 1988, Blackhawk Museums has displayed classic automobiles and myriad exhibitions exemplifying art, technology and history. Local students, residents and international visitors enjoy educational presentations, cultural programs and volunteer opportunities. Since the beginning it has been home to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum with over 55 vintage, classic, rare and sports automobiles on display. These automobiles are regarded as works of art and range from the dawn of the motoring age through the 1960's. In 2015, a new exhibition, The Spirit of the Old West opened, telling the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life. Other exhibitions on display include the Wheelchair Foundation Gallery and an exhibition of Juke Boxes from the Golden Age and vintage oil pumps.

“A JEWELRY BOX of rare and Classic Automobiles.”
Reviewed 21 August 2011

I needed a car fix, we were in Danville and Pebble Beach was the following week-end and we couldn't go. Told the wife let's have brunch on the patio of one of the Restaurants on the Plaza and head for the Museum. The Brunch was perfect, but the Restaurant was closing the end of the month, no need to review...The up take was the Museum. To my pleasant and wonderful surprise my wife actually really enjoyed it as much as I did. I have visited it numerous times since it opened in 1988. Each visit there is something new or different. It looks every bit as beautiful today as when it opened. The entry fee for two was $20.00, we spent about an hour and a half in air-conditioned comfort a wonderful relief from the 90 degree weather outside. This is the Tiffany's of car collections, so if you feel the need to see what Billionaire's spend their money on, it's a great little indulgence for twenty bucks and I promise your wife or significant other will be just as impreesed. There are a number of Cafe's and Restarants within walking distance, we had Friday night Happy Hour at the BlackHawk Grill, very nice...and $6 drinks, we looked at the Menu's and the prices are much more reasonable than expected considering the ambience.
