Daniela’s just keeps getting better and better. Our party of 10 thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last night. It was so nice to have a dining room to ourselves – we were able to have great conversations and lots of laughs. We give our compliments always to Daniela for preparing delicious Sardinian food. Our servers, Stefano, Domenico and Sara, were so attentive and friendly. Half of our group started with the Caesar Salad – so large it was enough to share. The salad was crisp Romaine lettuce, Parmigiano cheese, homemade dressing, and croutons. Everyone commented on how fresh and filling it was. We then went off in different directions. We enjoyed the Lasagna alla Bolognese (Ground beef, tomato sauce, and cheese), Ravioli ricotta e spinaci (Ravioli stuffed with ricotta cheese and spinach), Fettuccine allo zafferano in salsa di zucchine e gamberetti (egg and Sardinian saffron pasta with zucchini, and shrimp), Involtini di pollo ai funghi porcini (Chicken breast rolled and stuffed with prosciutto and Brie cheese with porcini mushrooms in a cream sauce, served with Risotto alla Milanese), Scaloppini di vitello al limone (veal scaloppini with parsley potatoes), and Fregula con cocciulas (pasta with clams, Italian parsley, sun dried tomatoes and garlic).

To finish the meal, we enjoyed cappuccinos and two had dessert of millefoglie al cioccolato (chocolate torte). What can we say, but “Thank You” for a wonderful dining experience!

Daniela's is a locally owned and operated Sardinian Italian restaurant. Daniela actually does the cooking!
Until recently, the restaurant was housed in a tiny little row house with only two tables for dining in. Most of its business was take out. Its new location is also on the Avenue in Hamden, but is much larger. The food is very good, hearty and different enough from straight up Italian American menus to be interesting. I wish they had more options for vegetarians.

Daniella's used to be a take out and tiny restaurant. Since it became a full restaurant on the same street (36th) we have eaten there at least three times. We've decided it is now our favorite restaurant for meeting friends for dinner or going ourselves when we are not feeling like spending a fortune, but want an excellent Italian (Sardinian) meal. The meals we've had are outstanding, all of them, though the standout this last time was the gnocchi, as light as it can come, with a wonderful tomato-pesto sauce. The servers are young relatives of the woman chef Daniella and passionate about her and her food. They bring a family air of friendliness and kindness that is hard to find in a good restaurant, and it is a very, very good restaurant. The desserts are also outstanding, including the classic fresh tiramisu. This is a find.

We came here for our work holiday lunch, and although at first we were the only table, the table that came in after us got their food first. Service was definitely slow. I ordered the meat arancini as an appetizer, and the middle was still frozen when it came to the table. There were actually two balls, and the other one was warmed through thoroughly and very tasty. The Panini sandwiches took a long time and they weren't anything special. The hot pasta was tasty, but lacked seasoning. Salt was definitely needed. The lunch took too long and the service was nothing to be wowed about.

Daniela's is the "real deal" when it comes to Hampden restaurants - funky on the outside, cozy in the inside. We took our family there for their last evening in town over the holidays. After strolling down "the miracle of 34th street," the dancing Santa at the front door greeted us in true Hampden style. We were seated in the rustic back room and treated to gnocchi that melted in our mouths, saccottini de grancho that was fabulous and many other Sardinian culinary delights. The authentic Sardinian wine was earthy and perfectly paired with our meal. Of course, we had to share a tiramisu and a millefoglie al choccolato, which provided the perfect ending to a lovely evening.
