Booked a room for a couple nights at the Alida, which is a self-described boutique hotel that is customer service driven with a family feel and higher end amenities. We were sorely mistaken. Once we called and found out how to actually valet, we got the car taken care of and the comedy of errors started. Once in the room we found it to be very clean but not well maintained. Broken drapes than could not be shut (we improvised with hair clips), electric door locks that were poorly timed and difficult to open and walls so thin that the activity in the adjacent rooms led nothing to the imagination. Due to the issues, our room was switched for night two and the the lack of maintenance was evident again, a wobbly water closet, a shower door that was out of plum and wouldn’t seal and the same door lock issue.
Aside from the challenges with the room there were some significant customer service issues. Two wedding parties over the weekend equated to a lack of amenity use for the rest of the guests. The rooftop bar they promote so much was booked for private functions all weekend, so that was off limits. The one lounge that was open had a “sliding scale” for drinks I guess, Friday was $15 and Saturday was $20 for the same drink. As hotel guests we were turned away each morning for breakfast because we didn’t have a reservation. When we finally did get to sit for dinner the menu was lackluster for the type of hotel they claim to be. When visiting hotels for the first time we try to manage our expectations. Based on our research, this place seemed like it was dialed in, in reality they have a very long way to go.
Be careful when booking here, call ahead to see if the amenities are available and hopefully they become diligent about meeting the standard they portray.
