This Even Hotel does not honor its own reservation system and is engaging in shadowy business practices. My four night stay’s reservation confirmation (using free night certificates) clearly states that the estimated charge, including taxes & fees, will be free. Yet, after my stay, the hotel charged my credit card an additional fee of $78 - claiming it as a “destination fee.” During my four night stay, at check-in & at checkout, the staff never mentioned this destination fee. They’re obviously keeping it a secret from guests. It was never mentioned whatsoever.
At check-in or at checkout, why not say to guests, “by the way, we will be charging you an additional $15 per night”?
For a month now I’ve been trying to resolve the issue with IHG who have chosen “to support the hotel” and will not offer any sort of resolution or compensation because this hotel is an independent franchise. The hotel is claiming that this “destination fee” is mandatory in NYC - which is absolutely false. There is no legislation whatsoever regarding this fee by the state of New York. Hotels have the discretion of charging its guests but must disclose it in advance of the stay. This hotel did not disclose this destination fee yet went ahead charging my credit card $78 for my four “free” nights.
