My husband and I recently got married at Akwaaba Mansion (1/14/12) because we wanted an intimate and cozy affair (60 people) that was elegant, not stuffy and budget friendly. Akwaaba Mansion delivered. The historical bed & breakfast is beautifully decorated and the staff, innkeeper Erica, and owner Monique were very warm, down to Earth and accommodating. When it can to the structure of our wedding, although we already had a planner, Monique and Erica were very helpful with helping us see our vision come to fruition, which is something they didn't have to do but that's a testament to the fact that the staff there goes above and beyond to help make their customers feel at home. They were diligent and responsive throughout the planning process and were always on site and available during the big day.
Hubby and I also stayed there for the whole weekend for our minimoon and it was relaxing and romantic--just what we needed. The rooms are impeccably clean, the beds are very comfortable) and depending on which room you choose (we were in the Jumping the Broom Suite), you get a jacuzzi, which is an added bonus. The breakfast there was delicious and...I could ramble on about how amazing this place is but I digress. We will be staying there again and I highly recommend that you consider Akwaaba Mansion for your next event or stay in NYC.

Very clean, innkeepers were excellent! Will stay no where else!
If you like an older "mansion" nestled among the stately brownstones in the newly gentrified (mostly) Stuyvestant Hgts. section of Brooklyn, this is the place for you. The hosts, Monique and Glenn, will orient you in as much detail as you care to know about the neighborhood and some of its fascinating residents, businesses, and community undertakings. With its one-of-a-kind (in that neighborhood) sunporch, iron gate, Italianate features, and surrounding garden, the place is downright inspirational. A little boy walking home from school asked me, on my way up the front steps, "is that your house, mister?" "No, I'm just staying here for a few days." "Well, that's the most beautiful house I ever saw."
Inside, the front parlor is welcoming and cozy on a winter's afternoon, with the fire place lit and a cup of tea brewed for the occasion. The rooms are a little funky, a little quirky, with a few renovations needed around the bend, but nothing we couldn't live with, and certainly comfortable and spacious enough to suit our needs. The breakfasts were delightful, different from day to day and served by our gracious hostess with a welcoming smile. She and her husband, we could say, went out of their way to help make our stay so memorable and worthwhile. We felt quite at home at Akwaaba and surely expect to return some day.
I've told everyone my story of discovering Akwaaba...the people, the house, the neighborhood, the restaurants...and how easy it was to get a train to Manhattan. We found the other guests so interesting that we spent hours at the breakfast table trading stories. Really special!
Akwaaba is a B&B which is well positioned near a subway station in Brooklyn, the property is charming but getting a little tired and is in need of some maintenance. It did however afford us the chance to experience the culture and character of Bed/Sty Brooklyn which we really enjoyed and would recommend to any international traveler. The nearby restaurants and Bar were a delight (Peaches, Therapy Bar,and the Italian down the street was our favorite). Akwaaba staff and the owners are very friendly and at all times helpful.
