everything nice. top tipp of lonely planet and most likely drawing attention from that. for the amount of money we spend per night (130US$) we would definetly choose sth more worthy next time. so everything ok but nothing outstanding.

First, the positives, hotel staff esp. the manager was extremely helpful and kind during a medical emergency that we faced. However, the hotel infrastructure was pretty outdated with a crampy room and washroom, TV channels not working and warm water suddenly disappeared on the checkout day.

Room tip: Ask for a room farthest from the construction site.

We booked this hotel mainly on the basis on the Lonely Planet review but as we are coming to realise, the LP Writers were having an off month when updating the latest version of that guide. Glendower is currently opposite an enormous building site for a new shopping mall (probably due to finish next century) and is at best quirky in the SL style - service at the check in is ok but things swiftly go downhill from there. Rooms can be small and you should push for the better options - heating is not provided and is an optional extra you need to pay for and the restaurant is a bit of a disaster - claims Chinese and Thai influences but actually has one sauce for all dishes (never knew that black bean sauce tasted the same as oyster sauce and spicy sauce, all just tasted of soy). If you're on a tight budget then go for it but eat at Grand Indian for dinner - we wouldn't recommend this place to friends but then that probably goes for the town as well....

Billed as a charming testimony of the colonial era, this hotel has nothing charming, and the bathroom fittings -- including the shower curtains -- do date back to pre-independence.... This was a miserable stay.

Furthermore, major construction is taking place before. We noticed it upon arrival but were promised by reception staff that it would stop at 7 pm. It did not and went on late into the night.

At least' the hotel staff was helpful in offering to pack an early breakfast to take with us upon our very early departure forHorton plains.

This was our worse hotel in Sri Lanka

Beautiful rooms, charming pub, tasteful fireplace.

Amenities - less than basic: sachet toiletries, no hair dryers (even on special request), musty smelling rooms.

But overall - stay here if you the Grand Hotel is booked out.
