Was lucky enough to have the time to take in an afternoon of thoroughbred racing. Parking was easy and only cost $2.00 to park onsite with a walk of less than 50 yards to the doors of Oaklawn. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly and walked up (there is an escalator) one flight of stairs and into the casino area. There are many, as in over 1,000 slot machines and several gaming tables if that suits your fancy. Today I wanted to bet on some thoroughbred race horses. We walked around to see all of what was offered and I highly recommend that you stop by the customer service area and get a reward players card if you are intending to gamble. We took the elevator up one floor to the Carousel Lounge where we paid $5.00 each to have a wonderful sitting area overlooking the racetrack. One can order off the menu or, as we choose, enjoyed the buffet bar. Their sliced corn beef was some of the best and most tender corn beef ever. Other choices included a salad bar, soup of the day, multiple vegetables and main course dishes of beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin stuffed with spinach, chicken and dumplings and a fried fish dish. Desert was a choice of two cobblers and the apple cobbler was delicious.
This dining area had great sight lines to the track as well as being close to Paramutual windows and bathrooms.
The staff was very pleasant and willing to go the extra mile in answering all of our questions.
This is a must place to visit and have a delightful time.
