Worthy of frequent visits with the changing seasons. Unique fauna not seen elsewhere. Very healthy plants among pleasant and low-volume visitors right in the middle of the University. Very unique.

Allen Centennial Gardens is in a strange location (surrounded by dorms and tall educational buildings), but it provides a sufficient escape from the chaos of campus life. The gardens are meticulously maintained and relatively quiet. They close at sundown but are open early in the morning.

All in all, it's a great daytime study spot and a nice place to relax amidst the hustle and bustle of Madison!

Plan to visit Madison and stroll along Lake Mendota in the University of Madison? This garden is a must. It is located near the School of Agriculture and Washburn Observatory on Observatory road. Stop on top of the hill and strolling down to visit the garden. According to the information posted, the garden features 25 styles of gardens from around the world, from flower garden to rock garden. Beautiful walk leading visitors to different style of garden. There are also spaces and benches for visitors to sit and enjoy the flowers and beautiful butterflies.

University grounds crews maintain this diverse and complex garden area. There is something beautiful to see all during the growing season. Parking on campus is a bit of a challenge. One option is to park across University Ave. in the residential neighborhood and make the 5 or six block walk.

I have been coming here for years but never thought to write a review. This little beauty of a garden is tucked away on the University campus. Even many long-time Madisonians overlook this place. It's free and beautiful. Despite it's small size there is a wide diversity of plant settings, ranging from alpine plants to a French garden to a lovely koi pond in the center. Instructional signage enhances the gardens. There is some metered parking on the streets adjacent, and you are a short walk past the boathouse to the lakeshore path if you feel like adding a stroll.
