Sourdough Sunrise is a one of a kind B&B! Both the outside and the interior of this building showcase Richard's talents as both a craftsman and an artisan. It seemed that every time we walked in the building, we noticed another special architectural feature that made it special. Our room was clean and comfortable and would easily accommodate 4-5 people as it had 2 full beds and a roll-away.

In addition to being a craftsman, Richard makes the lightest and fluffiest sourdough pancakes you've ever tasted. As long time residents of Seward, Richard and Sue have great stories about life in Alaska.

We're so glad we chose Sourdough Sunrise for our 2 night stay in Seward and highly recommend it.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this small B & B. The rooms are clean, roomy. The building itself was wonderfully crafted by the owner. Lots of detail work.
The breakfast was delicious and loved talking to Richard each morning. He was the chef each morning and always was full of stories of Alaska.
We are very glad we stayed there. There is no wifi but they do have a tv in each room.

The facility itself has been perfectly described by the reviewer "Trinilan". Not much more I can add from a descriptive point of view. We stayed 3 nights in Room 1, which had 2 queen beds. Because of the layout of the room, in the evenings we could leave our door partially open and still have privacy. This allowed us to get an evening breeze if we opened the common area door to the deck. A small fan would have been nice. We didn't ask, but they probably would have provided one. The sourdough pancakes, bacon and canelope were very good, but with us there 3 mornings, some menu variety would have been welcomed.
We appreciated all the attention to construction details as well as practical ones. A terrific place to stay!!

Room Tip: All three rooms were upstairs with doors off a small common area.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Sourdough Sunrise for 2 days in July, 2015. We are so glad that we made the decision to stay here. Our recent trip to Alaska was planned with the goal of enjoying the natural beauty of the place as much as we could.

The Hosts, Richard and Sue are long-time residents of Seward and Richard is an exceptional woodworker who built the place himself. Sue will be quick to point out that she gets credit too as the "sander and finisher". They are a terrific husband and wife team. The B&B sits nestled back in a secluded 6.5 acre lot with trees providing both beauty and privacy. It is not uncommon for moose and bears to be on or near their property, though we were not fortunate enough to catch a glimpse. The B&B is located conveniently just on the outside of town at the entrance road to Exit Glacier. The glacier is one of Seward and the Kenai Peninsula's most alluring natural landmarks.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a clean and comfortable accommodation, exceptional local craftsmanship and a warm and friendly pair of hosts with stories and experiences that can only make your trip to Seward more memorable.

The breakfast consists of homemade sourdough pancakes, fresh fruit, bacon and homemade jams from the local berries - all delicious and sufficiently filling. Coffee is plentiful which is necessary during high summer when daylight persists beyond midnight and resumes its control of the land before you are ever ready to wake. Perhaps the best part of breakfast is story time with Richard. His stories of Alaska living off the land just adds a richness to your experience that you don't find often.

In closing I will add that searching online sometimes makes it difficult to know exactly where to stay when visiting somewhere "off the grid" like places in Alaska can be. While this is the only place in Seward that we've stayed, after having 3 days to explore the town I am confident that we made the right choice.

Alaska is a majestic, impressive, wild and wonderful place. You owe it to yourself when you visit to maximize your experience in every way possible. Sourdough Sunrise will only enhance that experience without sacrificing any comforts along the way.

Room Tip: Only 3 rooms and all are equally great.

We very much enjoyed our visit to this small B&B. Richard and Sue told us a lot about what it's like to live in Alaska. They live in the home next door and can come over easily for extra pillows, etc and to cook breakfast. Richard is a woodworker and built the B&B himself. It's nestled in the woods. You choose what time you want breakfast. The beds were comfortable, rooms very clean, convenient to Seward harbor, close to Exit Glacier/Harding Icefield.
