Pile Place is a good market. Lots to see and eat and do. Lots of choices and all the products look great.

If you're in Seattle this is a must visit. If you want coffee or drink, fresh food and in particular fish, flowers or just people watching.

Be warned it's a step climb from the waterfront so walk slow. Watching the fish mongers sell is theatre in its own right. many of them competing and trying to out do either by their banter and showmanship of the displays for fish.

There are plenty of fish restaurants intermingled but check menus as some do not sell the fresh produce in the market. See my review of Soundview Café.

Many of the restaurants on the other side of the market are so popular they have queues.

A large sign, “Public Market Center,” will lead you to Pike Place Market, founded in 1907. It is here where there is plenty of action, beauty and wonderment take place. The establishment is actually a farmers, craft and seafood market. Various kiosks and restaurants abound here. Prices will differ from place to place.

Come early if you want to beat the crowds. Weekdays are better than weekends. At times, the degree of people walking through the market is head to head, toe to toe type of movement. If you have any form of claustrophobia, arrive early.

There are several viewpoints that will give you a spectacular view of Puget Sound. Don’t miss going down the alley and seeing the famous “Gum Wall.” It is truly disgusting and apropos for being American.

A must see is the kiosk famous for “fish throwing” to a willing customer. This area can get crowded. You have a right to be here. Just be patient and you will get your picture/video. Seeing the “Flying Fish” is part of the Americana experience. This kiosk is right next to a medium size statue called “Rachel the Pig,” which makes for a good photo opportunity too.

Pike Market is a key landmark in Seattle. Unlike the Space Needle, the market is free to roam if you can withstand the temptation to indulge in many of the delicacies of the market.

We visited Pike’s Place Market on 3/24/18. We only had a short time to explore a small portion of the market, but we enjoyed ourselves very much. My favorite were the flower booths. The flowers were gorgeous and affordable! For example, you can get a beautiful large boutique of mixed spring blooms for only $15! It was hard trying to decide which one to buy! The only thing I didn’t care for was how crowded the place was; shoulder-to-shoulder mass of humanity trying to squeeze through narrow paths of vendors wasn’t great.
