Owner description: With Lake Hood, to which it is joined by canals, Lake Spenard is considered to be the largest floatplane harbor in the world.

Lake Spenard is an amphibious plane center. All around the edge of the lake sea planes are tied to the shore. Every hour a sea plane is taking off our landing. Excursions can be booked. Off in the distance is Anchorage International Airport. How this sea plane center and an international airport exist alongside of one another is mystifying.

They take off and land on the lake. You need to walk down the road to see most of the take offs... but interesting to watch the planes..

The lake is spectacular even if it happens to be a rainy day. We walked around the lakefront several times and then took a float plane to see the scenery from above.

We stopped by after a full day and had lots of fun watching the seaplanes land and take off. There is a little park that has picnic tables and benches, so you can enjoy watching the planes there. There is also a small playground for kids. Would be a fun family activity.

Wonderful float plane base.

Lots of activity.

Very relaxing to watch the planes take off and land.

What a hoot watching a pickup tow a float plane around like you would see being fine with a boat most other places.
