State House Inn is unlike major chain hotels. I have stayed there twice on business. The staff is friendly and the property is mostly well maintained minus a broken ice machine. They offer a better than average, free breakfast but their "lounge" is dingy, expensive and only serves bottled beer. The rates and location are reasonable so my overall opinion is "Average".

We stayed one night at The State House for a quick trip in Springfield. We stayed on a Friday night and downtown Springfield is a ghost town on the weekends so there weren't many guests. We booked through HOTWIRE and paid 64 per night. That's a good price for this hotel downtown Springfield. Close to the capital and museum. Friendly late night front desk clerk. Rooms are nice and average size. There was plenty of room for 3 adults. Beds look small but were very comfy. Clean room and bathroom. There is no vending but they have a pantry. Not a lit of options. Full free breakfast in the morning with the BEST service. The gentleman who attends the breakfast made it feel like a restaurant. Again, clean and nice. Would stay again.

This place is very clean and comfortable, and updated. It's in a great location, waking distance to many restaurants and bars downtown. All of the staff were super friendly. Ms. Helen took care of us at breakfast time :-)

Yes, it was clean, convenient location to our Lincoln memorial spots, Amtrak station, and the state capitol, and provided a hot breakfast. We were there with 3 kids and I think they could've provided a little extra for our comfort, such as instant hot chocolate we can make ourselves in the room. There isn't much around there, no other food source. It was extremely cold and although cookies were available, a warm children's drink, hot chocolate or apple cider, would have made our trip better. The staff answered questions, but do not feel they really want to be there. I asked for opening hours for the capitol since it was new year's eve. The front desk man looked it up and told me it was closed. We called to make sure he contacted the correct one and we found it open. The state government employees at the capitol were more welcoming than our hotel front desk. If you are traveling with a wheelchair, the king suite will work.

We checked in late on a Thursday for a two night stay. We had a King Suite, which was very spacious and comfortable. Plenty of room for just the two of us. Service was great, especially the front desk personnel (including Adam Martinez) and the breakfast staff (who all went out of the way to make our meal great - they even made the waffles for us!). Very nice two day get away. Only thing missing was a hot tub (and there was no pool, but I did not mind that).
