We arrived around 7pm. The entrance was locked and we were buzzed in. Waited for the receptionist for 10 minutes. She was friendly and helpful. Got a room on the third floor, wifi signal was OK. The kitchen on the first floor was fully equipped. Weird sweet smell in the hallways and the rooms are small. Not recommended.

This is a guest house not a hotel so I am at a loss to understand reviewers who complain about the shared bathrooms and basic rooms. The desk clerk was friendly and very helpful, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was huge and all facilities were immaculate. I did not experience any strange smells as other reviewers noted. Breakfast was fresh and I have no complaints.

For some reason we decided to drive to Saudarkrokur and booked a room at this place. If you decide to travel to a remote place like Saudarkrokur you shouldn't expect too much.

According to Booking.com the room had TV and wifi is available, toilets and showers are shared. The TV didn't work and wifi is depending on where your room is located. Our room was on the third floor and to the north, not good for wifi.

Because toilets, with showers (two each floor) are shared, I recommend that you stand in the cue instead of listening to when it becomes free, especially important in the morning! Also you can expect some cue-jumping from families.

The rooms are not very sound isolated and some oil on the door hinges could make the stay a bit quieter.

Breakfast is the most positive about this place, not too much but served by a nice and friendly woman.

I have rated this place only on cost, because as mentioned, if you're at a remote place don't expect too much of standard.

We stayed here to spread out the drive from Husavik to Reykjavik. It's in horse country, so don't be surprised by the smell. It is expensive for what you get. It's out-dated and has a funky smell. The floors creek so you can hear every footstep. The bed was comfortable and the guest kitchen was spacious. I wouldn't stay here again.

This was a sweet and cosy place. Our family of 5 stayed in a twin and a triple room for 1 night, booked as part of a circular trip by Iceland Unlimited.
I should point out that we had opted to stay in budget accommodation (with shared facilities) for our trip and we like small and friendly places, so I’m rating it based on those criteria.
We stopped in Sauðárkrókur to break up the journey van Myvatn to Reykjavik. The weather was a bit grim which maybe affected our not so positive view of the town. The guesthouse (the white house, not the orange school) on the other hand was very welcoming. The rooms, although small, had comfortable beds and the shared bathroom was stocked with extra clean towels to which you could help yourself. 3 bedrooms shared the bathroom on our floor. There was no washbasin in our rooms. The kitchen/breakfast room was on the same floor as our room. There was also a small living area with sofa’s where you could just relax. We had full use of the very well-equipped kitchen and we, like a few other guests, got supplies from the huge supermarket in town and cooked for ourselves that evening. It was a bit like being at home. Good WiFi.
There was a strict no shoes upstairs policy – there were shoe racks downstairs – which was nice because everything stayed clean.
The reception isn’t manned the whole time. If you arrive early you may be re-directed to Hotel Mikligarður, the large orange building shown on the picture here, a 5 minute drive away, to collect your key.
The breakfast was good and the lady preparing it was very friendly.
