Hotel is located in the middle of the town. It looks nice from the outside, and they have lots of parking at the back. Friendly employees, which gave me my room key with a post it on with the room number.... (see picture). As this is your first meeting with the hotel, it doesn't show professionality.
The hotel shows that it's quite old and has not been renovated much for a long time. Very old windows and radiators in the rooms. I got the feeling that it wasn't very clean either. The rooms very spacious, but the TV only had 9 channels to watch.
For some reason there was a couple of fire warning alarms laying in the hallway for at least 24 hours... (see picture).
The breakfast was nice, but no mayo.
Ok stay, but don't expect too much.

I felt like stepping in to my old student room. Bet the bed was bigger and better. Realy nice with an hotel shower with realy good water power! Thanks a lot . I eat at the hotel restaurant and was recommended today's menu that was baked cod with mashed potatoes, and that was surprisingly good.

The hotel was well located in the middle of the town. Everything is in walking distance. Personnel was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and nice - no complaints. Nice coffee and tea opportunity for free at lobby.
Restaurant in library open on week nights and Saturday but not on Sunday. Food was good - average price compared to local price level. I had fish dish which was really good.

We travelled to Norway with Discover the world to do a fly drive so arrived here on a Sunday relatively late on. The receptionist was fairly brusque and unsmiling [the others were not; he was the one person we met in Norway who obviously did not like having a job] and announced that there was no food as it was Sunday - somewhat disappointing after a long day travelling. We went out into the town and found a takeaway that we would normally have avoided but there you go. The room was supposed to be a twin and technically I suppose it was with two beds pushed together and framed by cabinets that gave us a little gap but with a shared duvet! The other really annoying thing about the room was the curtains; not only were they thin but they did not meet by almost a metre in the middle. We hung a piece of material over the space but it was ineffectual so the room was impossible for me to stay asleep in once the sun came up, quite early in the morning. God knows how anybody sleeps in them in the summer when the sun doesn't exactly go down. The buffet at breakfast was fine and they did not mind that we made a sandwich for lunch. Due to the poor rate for the £, dinner in the evening was even more expensive than usual- almost £35 - 40 for lamb. We stayed for 3 nights and did not see many people in there at all. One of the carparks had building works in and seemed a tad hidden so we always tried to get the hire car into the one on the side - like everybody else - and we managed to do that on 2 of the 3 nights. We travelled to Andenes [lovely drive, saw sea eagles [not close], whooper swans, white sandy beaches] and decided against going on a whale trip as the journey was quite long and we didn't want to be driving in the dark; they said the trip out would last 2 - 5 hours hence our decision. We also drove up another route to Nyksund - a fishing village which sadly was closed. Even the toilets! The views again were excellent. The last part of the road to Nyksund, however, is not great so expect it to take longer than usual. Great scenery on the way.

Room Tip: Would suggest a room at the front of the hotel to avoid the early morning sun - see above.

There are not a lot of hotels in this remote area of Norway so this is a good option if you are in the area and need somewhere to stay.

Prices are higher in Norway compared to other European or US locations so I won't try to compare this with a hotel of a similar value elsewhere in the world.

What I can say is the staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely, very modern. It was compact but still had room for a separate seating area and fridge. It was spotlessly clean. Bed was very comfortable. Great shower. We also had tea and coffee making facilities which was a great touch. The only downside was the curtains didn't close properly, but apart from that the room was really comfortable.

Breakfast was included in our rate and was great. Lovely selection of cheese ham, breads, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, nuts, scrambled eggs, sausages, salmon, juices and the usual tea and coffee. The restaurant area had a lovely scandinavian vibe, very comfortable and relaxing and a nice place to spend a lazy breakfast.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, it looked lovey and so did the food, we just prefer to go exploring and eat out where we can. This is where the hotel's location was great as it is right in the centre of Sortland and 3-5 minute walk to the shops, restaurants and water front.

All in all we had a great stay. It was the perfect stop over hotel and would definitely go back again if we were in the area.

Room Tip: Hotels at the back overlook the car park and are quite, at the front they overlook the main road but it wasn't busy when we were there
