Owner description: Step back in time in Atlanta's most tangible link to the past, Oakland Cemetery. This historical park is the final resting place for many Civil War soldiers, golfing legend Bobby Jones, and "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell. Tours are available on weekends at 10:00, 2:00, 4:00, and 6:30 (March-October) and by request.

You need several hours to wander through this Victorian park like cemetery. The Iris were in bloom and signs proudly let you know what flower is in bloom. The mausoleums are master works of Victorian crypts. Margaret Mitchell is buried there as well as 16 Union and almost 7,000 Confederate soldiers. The cemetery is well kept and guarded. There is an urban legend that where the soldiers are buried that in the evening you hear roll call being called. Honestly, I don’t blame them for haunting this beautiful 48 acres. In the bell tower is a visitor center and books on Georgia’s ghost stories and legends.

We only had an hour to spend here but that was enough to make us want to come back for a longer stay. We were able to see Bobby Jones' grave, Margaret Mitchell's, Maynard Jackson's, the CSA soldiers area and a brief visit to the visitor center. The Spring flowers were beautiful. Just walking from one area to another is so interesting. I highly recommend a visit if you like history and spectacular cemetery architecture.

This is my first time visiting the cemetery and I must say I was a little bit nervous. Tourist and the Dead don't exactly mix, but this place is so well kept and welcoming. The flowers were marvelous and the headstones were awe-inspiring! I would definitely go there again. Make sure it's cooler out though because the wind tends to not flow well between the headstones.

Beautiful Historic cemetery with diverse population (albeit all dead). Took a general tour which started closer to 10:30 then 10 and lasted almost 2 hrs. The cemetery was bursting with blossoms and the grounds were being carefully tended by volunteers.

Many stories and a few famous people buried here including Margaret Mitchell. It’s now a city park so many people visit it. There is an ap you can download to give you a,guided tour. It’s not open at night.
