Owner description: Located on a small hill, the Iberian city of Ullastret overlooks the gentle and peaceful countryside of the Empordà. Between VIth and IInd centuries BC it was one of the largest concentrations of population in the pre-Roman Iberian Peninsula, and the capital town of the indiketes. Strolling among its streets, houses and stately buildings, exploring its magnificent city walls and visiting the museum, will take you back more than 2.500 years ago, at the heart of the Iberian culture.

Huge Iberian walls and well conserved structures around 25 hundred years old...a cultural visit even young children will enjoy. The museum was fine; it could have shown more things, but was nice and neatly presented. All in a wonderful environment. If you have the chance and the weather is nice, take a walk around the surrounding fields.

This is a remarkable site, and well worth a visit. The site is an Iberian Iron Age town, where you can walk around and see the old buildings and town streets. The site is also one of the five main branches of the Archaeology Museums of Catalonia (MAC - Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya).

The Iberian settlement at Ullastret is well conserved and takes you back in time. The small museum has a good collection of artefacts from the time of settlement (7 to 4th Century BC) and there is also a 3-D audiovisual experience which we really enjoyed.
We visited with children (9, 11, 13) and we all made good use of the audio guides (there is a soundtrack for children and another for adults).
Interesting to learn of the connections between this site and the Greek settlement of Empures to the north.

We had already visited several Oppida (Iron Age Hill Forts) such as Ambrussum and Enserune in France, so it was nice to find such a well preserved site on the Costa Brava. There isn't much to see inside, just the usual cisterns and storage pits, but the walls are seriously impressive.

The museum isn't very interesting if you don't understand Spanish, but the 3D reconstruction was great fun. I would have preferred a leaflet to an audio guide, but at least this one gave you the option to skip a lot of the less interesting content.

This is an interesting site to visit. You are given an audio guide to walk around with which helps a little with imagining how the site would have looked. Some more drawings would probably have helped around the site.
The museum is very good and there are some very very old pieces in here.
Well worth a visit.
