We have stayed in the sister hotel Orka Sunlife all inclusive 3 times which was lovely but we like to go out and about so decided to stay in Orka club (now Orka world) about 4 years ago bed and breakfast, it was ideal for us with good location and transport links ,immaculate grounds and great staff. The rooms were a bit dated but they were clean and comfortable.
When we saw that the Annex had been refurbished and it
was going all inclusive we thought it would be perfect for us.
We always go in September when it’s quieter and children
are back at school as our family are grown up now so we avoid school holidays.
We arrived mid afternoon and were taken to the Annex,
our room was modern and spacious with 4 single beds. The balcony was huge and we had a view towards Kayakoy and amazing sunsets. We loved sitting on the balcony on an evening watching the sun go down.
We unpacked and decided to have a walk up to the
snack bar for some lunch as it was late afternoon by the time we were sorted. The snack bar was buffet style outdoors and it was swarming with wasps, it was awful.
We were expecting to order a snack from a menu as we had in previous years. That was our one and only visit during our two week stay.
We decided to eat in the hotel our first night as we were tired from travelling. It was ok, the usual salad, main dishes and desserts you’d see on offer in any other basic hotel. We weren’t offered drinks by waiters you had to go and get your own and there was no cutlery on the table which you would expect when staying in a hotel with a 4 star rating.
We didn’t stay in after our meal, we went out to a lovely
little bar called Karo in Ovacik owned by one of Orka’s former barmen. (Him and the old staff were a big miss this year),
We stayed around the Annex pool most days, we only ate breakfast twice, lunch three times and our evening meal
twice, it wasn’t bad but the menu wasn’t very varied and we were happier to go out to local restaurants.
On our second night we came back to the hotel after a meal out and decided to have a couple of drinks before bed. The entertainment guy was behind the bar arguing with the girl from the entertainment. The barman tried to
intervene and calm him down but he turned on the barman and they ended up arguing in front of guests and children it was disgraceful. We never saw either of them
again so I presume they were let go.
As I said earlier the grounds were always immaculate in the past but it was sad to see the state they were left in some days by guests that thought it was fine to throw their rubbish and empty drinks beakers/glasses down all over for the poor staff to have to clean up and the drink thrown all over the place, your feet stuck to the ground when walking up to hotel on a morning after the night before.
Considering it was out of season and the children had gone back to school I couldn’t believe how many were
there which wouldn’t have been a problem but some were left to run wild while their parents sat and got drunk. There are no real facilities for children and teenagers to keep them entertained.
One night we were woken at 4 am by a man stomping around outside the rooms in the annex shouting for his partner for over an hour. He was so drunk he fell over hitting the wall outside our room, he was lucky he didn’t fall through the glass balcony into the pool and although there are cctv cameras everywhere in the annex, I’m sure no security came. I also think the annex is quite open so maybe it would be an idea to add some railings to the wall and a key card activated gate to make it more secure.
Drink choices were very poor although I am a white wine drinker and my husband drinks beer it would have been nice to have the odd cocktail but these were all at an extra cost. They could have had a cocktail list for drinks made with the available local spirits and mixers so I don’t see why they didn’t, this is something else you would expect to come as standard in a 4 star hotel.
This is also the first AI hotel I have stayed at that does not offer you pool towels.
The main hotel is in need of a total overhaul as it is now very tired looking and dated, it is no where near a 4 star rating, I’d give it a low 3 being generous.
The Annex room was lovely though and so were the 4 staff there. (2 maids, barman and maintenance guy)
The Barmen in main outdoor bar were great too, their
service was prompt and friendly and they always remembered what your drink was even though we didn’t go there very often.
Would we stay there again? Only if they refurbished
the main hotel to match the standard of rooms in the annex and either scrapped the AI or improved the AI to a higher standard and we were guaranteed to be put in the room we had actually booked as although we were put in the annex that we had paid for, we spoke to and saw far too many guests that either had to move after a few days or weren’t given the room they had booked at all.
If it hadn’t been for the annex we could not have stayed there, there was nowhere to relax for booming music day and night either.
Lastly, we did venture to the waterpark one day which was nice. We walked there instead of waiting for the hotel shuttle (took about 15 minutes to walk) and stayed 3 hours then walked back. We only had drinks there 95tl for a beer so although it’s free entry for Orka guests it would be expensive for families to go there more than a couple of times and pay for food and drinks all day so maybe food and drinks could be offered at a discounted price to guests that have already paid to stay all inclusive in Orka hotels.
