Stayed here recently and unfortunately had a really rubbish experience from start to finish. Upon arrival we were told our room wasn’t ready yet (we actually arrived at 2.30 so it was half an hour late already) with no apology or alternative. We needed to access the room to change and nap our daughter so this was quite frustrating. We headed over to the room to see if we could get her changed as the reception team had said the room was nearly ready. The room was in state still with used glasses, dirty laundry left behind and an unflushed toilet which was really off putting. By this point the room didn’t feel appealing anymore as it felt like we would be in someone else’s dirt. We went back to let them know that the room still wasn’t anywhere near ready (2.45 by this point) and could we perhaps just have a refund and be on our way. A member of the team offered us a discount on the room and room service on them as an apology, we accepted and stayed the night. The following morning the toilet didn’t work so we had to leave the room and find a toilet elsewhere. We stayed in room 6 and it was pretty tired and grubby, big iron mark in carpet, stained old armchair etc. I think they need to invest some money back into the rooms, for what it costs you could get much more from a room nowadays with a better standard elsewhere. At breakfast we didn’t seem to experience the same service as anyone else, no one showed us where anything was or let us know there was a kitchen menu so we felt we missed out a bit. When we checked out there were different members of staff to the previous day who tried to dispute the offer of a reduction on the room and the room service being covered by them! As you can imagine extremely stressful and in my opinion completely unacceptable to offer something and then retract it. Does no one write notes to avoid this situation? All in all won’t be returning and couldn’t get out of there quicker.

Booked a spa overnight stay with husband.

Good news first - Friendly welcome. Grounds lovely and main house very pretty. Ate lunch at Nineteen - decent food, swift service. Evening meal at Dining Room was excellent and we felt good value for money. All 3 courses were delicious and within the £36 allocated budget (for me, although not husband). Reasonable buffet breakfast the next day although scrambled eggs were unpleasant!

Bad news - Service slow, especially in the cocktail bar. Drinks prices seem steep (eg. £70 for Whispering Angel bottle). Spa not equipped for lazy lounging with limited beds. My treatment was 20 mins late and had to be cut short as we had to set off home by 11am. Junior Suite was dated and a little shabby.

Would return but only for the food! Gave 4/5 because food so lovely.

Great experience. The spa treatments are lovely and felt really relaxed. A choice of 3 pools which includes a nature pool which is amazing. Outdoor jacuzzi and sauna are excellent. Excellent staff and the food at the restaurant in the main building is just fabulous. Would go there again just for the quality of the food and service if not for the stay. Rooms are spacious, clean and well ventilated along with natural light making the stay pleasurable. All in all enjoyed the weekend stay.
