This museum is small, but it packs in a lot of information. There is an amazing guide who did a talk while we were there about Natchez history that was so interesting. My mother was from Natchez, and I felt I was learning more about who she was by learning more about Natchez.

Natchez has many beautiful homes and some interesting white Antebellum history but we felt the coverage of African American history and particularly their role in the creation of southern wealth, was weak, non-existent or down right false as presented in the home tours. Fortunately this great museum fills the gap. Lots of great information, a beautiful old building and a spectacularly enthusiastic and informed docent. The visitor centre should sell this place better - it barely got a mention when we were seeking suggestions.

Nowhere is the story of the history of the African American more real than at this amazing tribute to the lives of those gone before. Composed of donated and purchase artifacts with newspaper articles, the walls speak volumes of the condition of life under the Spanish, French, British and American governments. From the ashes of slavery came accomplished, educated, brave and courageous people leading the way.
Support this amazing establishment.

The mansions of Natchez are breathtaking but there is little or no mention of the contributions, whether coerced or voluntary, of the African-American community. This museum provides a balance to the story that should make it a mandatory stop on your tour. The enthusiasm of the curator adds immeasurably
