Great collection of materials about life in Natchez that really comes to life thanks to private tour with curator. He selected interesting stories to keep the kids engaged during the museum tour. Brings the history of Natchez alive better than any plantation home.

This museum is great value and we were shown round by a very knowledgeable host. Once he had taken us right round, we started again and went around checking out the little details we had missed the first time - there is so much! A really thorough grounding in African American history. On street parking nearby is easy.

This museum has a great number of artifacts that include a little of everything. Pictures of Richard Wright from different points in his life were a highlight. But as others here have said, the museum doesn’t go far enough to explain the significance of what you see.

Have been here many times but learn something new each time. It shows another side to Natchez than is obvious to the first time tourist and that there is a deep and strong culture of African Americans. While I understand James G comments below, I was fortunate to have a volunteer who explained so much that was not obvious.

This place is good and has lots of information but is poorly curated. This means it is hard to pull a clear narrative from all the objects. This is a shame because there is some really interesting material but it just doesn't deliver on the punch it should.

For example, there are lots of books opened to a particular page laying about. But what are you looking at/or for?

Definitely worth a visit but it could be so much better.

Thank James G
