Owner description: Emerald Mound is the second-largest Indian mound in America.

It's amazing how many people don't know the history of Indian mounds. Mississippi has quite a few of them - you can even follow a Mound Trail around the state. The signs will give you a good description of their purpose and how they are used today.

To visit the second largest native american site in the US was amazing. Located north of Natchez about 20 minutes in a beautiful forest, this peaceful, powerful mound gave me such reverence and peace. Climbing to the top of the Sun Mound, I felt a respect and incredible respect for what it was. Due to the location, I doubt many people visit it. It has no fast food shops nearby, no souvenir shops, no guides. But, for the right person, this can be the best stop on your journey. Consider it.

If you are in the Natchez area this mound is well worth taking a look at. You have to be amazed at how much work was involved in the construction of this attraction.

Visited today with friends. This is a sixty foot mound in an otherwise flat area built up by ancient Indians. You can climb to the top but it can be slick as it is covered in grass. A must see if you are on the Trace, it is not very far off the beaten path.

While emerald mound will not be for everyone, it is a unique and noteworthy site to explore. The second largest Indian mound north of Mexico presents a quick walk up to the top with some amazing views. There are lots of plaques and signs to explain the site, culture, and significance. Worth the short detour to explore for about 30 minutes to an hour. No bathrooms on site and bring water if a warm day.
