Natchez is a gem of antebellum architecture and the Monmouth is a nice example. A tour of the property is included in your stay, so plan on staying for it (10 am). We did not dine at the inn in the evening. We did join a happy, friendly crowd at happy hour. Unfortunately, our room, one added on above the kitchen for slaves, I believe, had some problems. We picked the least expensive room in a pricey venue. But the ceiling leaked in the rain and the bathroom in general was worn. And honestly, I think they need to replace the mattress. When I alerted the management to the leaking ceiling, which had clearly been a problem for a while, they kindly discounted our night.

Spent one night here on the way to New Orleans and really wished we could have stayed longer.

Easy to find just outside the center following hotel signs (with it also being an historic site) Fantastic Southern welcome at the reception desk, which carried on for our whole visit. We were in chalet 31, which we loved, it was spotless, loved the fact there was a spa style bath and shower, old style charm. Outside porch with obligatory rocking chairs , with gardens, flowers and bird song (lovely wake up call) a real treat.

Food wise, there is an on site formal restaurant (formal dress required and full on our night so recommend booking in advance if this is your thing) and casual bar style also available in the main house with complementary hors d'oeuvres.

Breakfast was excellent served inside or outside (in the formal dining building) loved watching the squirrels while enjoying Southern breakfast, provided with excellent service.

Finished with tour, expertly and enthusiastically provided but the lovely lady who had welcomed me on reception the day before (so sorry missed her name but has 3 sons) She was brilliant and really brought the history alive and kindly took photos for us on the balcony. This tour is inclusive to hotel guests and I would thoroughly recommend.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel, fail to see how you would possibly rate it less then 5 stars!

Thank you very much all

Room Tip: We loved the outside chalets

Beautiful southern mansion rooms, but a lot of TLC is needed: paint chips and scuffs, stained carpet. The room had a lack of plugs for recharging purposes, no clock, and no tea or coffee making supplies. Otherwise, the room was comfortable, but as we went in with very high expectations, they were not met. It should be noted that breakfast is not served in the main house, but across the property in another building; you can walk or drive there. It was a small cold buffet, then you could order a couple of hot items from a menu. Very little menu choice: no choice of meat for example; however, the served food was well cooked. We loved the dinner there.

This excellently preserved hotel has comfortable rooms, gorgeous grounds (the azaleas were in full bloom when we were here at the end of March!)

Sat on wrought iron furniture in the courtyard in the back of the old home drinking mint juleps and eating hors d'oeuvres as we overlooked the lush gardens and pond. We stayed in a cottage that had a comfortable poster bed, bath and
tv. We went to dinner in the parlour of the main house served with linen, silver and crystal. Delicious dinner, super service!

A full breakfast is included, and was served with the same elegance as dinner.

The staff was friendly and helpful, in the gift shop, the restaurant areas, and even the grounds crew. Parking is close to where you stay, so that's nice, too. Even the guests were friendly and nice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Monmouth.
