This may be my first 5 Star Review. We had dinner this week as part of our anniversary celebration. We booked a tasting menu in the chef’s table. You can opt for the wine pairings with each of the 6 courses. If you do, Tia, the sommelier, is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful.

The chef, Jonathan Pasion, was outstanding. Watching him direct all kitchen activities while explaining the various courses to us was like watching a conductor with a symphony orchestra. He was extremely pleasant and answered all our questions. We’re sort of “foodies” so this was a big treat. He’s a relatively young man with an Old World sense of service and professionalism. He clearly takes pride and passion in his work. Chef Pasion is a graduate of the prestigious Johnson and Wales University. They should be very proud of him.

Also, the tasting menu features two different items for most of the courses. This gives you the chance to sample more items than the standard tasting menu.

The entire staff of the Ka’ana Kitchen were excellent. They gave us a very memorable dining experience. Whenever we come back to Maui, the Ka’ana Kitchen will be on our itinerary.

Probably one of the most unique menu's we saw during our trip! But holy moly!!! Everything we ate was absolutely incredible. Octopus salad, ya gotttaaaaaa. The ahi/burrata salad, I love burrata and have never tasted it in this way, was blow away!!! My husband had the pork belly, it was so tender and flavorful. So yah this meal .... 10/10!

On the weekends (Friday-Sunday) they serve a bottomless Bloody Mary bar option for $20 that is worth the visit if you like Bloody Mary’s. We stayed for the week and the breakfast buffet was included in our package. The options were varied with something for everyone. The juice bar with daily changing options was the most unique. I would have liked to have seen some daily specials and a change up on the egg and potato options only because after a week even with the choices it started to seem redundant. The only other minor complaint was that it was a little hard to coordinate the toast (with the toasters not always working well) with the made to order omelettes. But overall this is a wonderful breakfast buffet.

This place is a bit of a joke. I have been to lots of nice hotel restaurants and traveled most of the world. I am surprised that this place has the number of good reviews it does, it simply is not justified in my opinion. I will start with the good. The property is nice and some seating areas have a nice view. The food is OK, not great. But for the ridiculous prices I can only say the food is just OK.

Now for the bad.

The service is pretentious, slow and rude. The staff has a snobby attitude of some Beverly Hills, LA type attitude. It simply does not fit in well with the Maui laid back attitude. The service and attitude of our waiter was so bad it bordered on completely offensive.

The prices are so over the top, I can’t begin to make sense of them. $10 for a beer? $18 for a cocktail - that’s a rip. But the wine prices were what was really galling. There were bottles on their list that were $20-$30 bottles they were asking $200+ for. Just insane stupid prices. Why would anyone pay them?! And the dish prices were typical high price Maui, but without the nice size servings. Again, the food is ok.

They had a thing called restaurant week going on that was a charity event. Some proceeds go to charity. When we asked about it, the waiter was completely dismissive of the entire program and said it was just a set of small samples, for some charity thing. It was insulting.

If you like overpriced food served up with a lot of bad attitude, this place is for you!

Dinner at this restaurant was an impromptu but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise to our palate. The atmosphere there was buzzy and there was this fire dance the night we went, it was fun to watch.

In term of the food, I had black sesame noodles as appetiser and lobster ceviche for the main course, the food was delicious and well presented, and was served quite quickly even though it was busy there that evening. This restaurant offers a tempting selection of cocktails which we will go back to try another night.
