We've stayed at this property several times. With each unit, the decorations & interiors are left to the owners. The kitchen, washer/dryer, garage for rental car make the accommodations very family-friendly for 4 persons or more (with 3 bedrooms in the villas & 4 baths). Shuttle service is great to the Grand Wailea (for the pool & shops), the closest shopping center (shops & restaurants & market) & now even further stops. Happily this year the Ho'olei offers maid service daily. Save yourself time, the hotel will arrange pickup & drop-off at the airport (call the hotel ahead) & a rental car at the property. Plus add family photography at the hotel (5***** exceptional job).

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for twin beds for kids in advance - I reserved twins but received a full & air mattress

We stayed at the Ho'Olei at the Grand Wailea on a family vacation with 4 adults and 3 children. The villa and resort were both beautiful and the accommodations were wonderful. They offer shuttles that were pretty fast and we also had a rental car which is a must for this area. I however prefer somewhere that is a short walk to the beach and this resort (staying in the villa section at Ho'olei) was a shuttle ride then a pretty decent walk through the massive resort. The beach area was pretty large however not large enough for the number of guests who are staying at the resort. If you arrived at the beach later than 8am, the only lounge chairs and umbrellas available were 5 rows back. They did have cabanas and loungers available to rent at extra expense however they were pool side and not available for ocean front area. If I were staying there again, I would stay in multiple rooms at the resort since the villas are too far away in my opinion.

Room Tip: stay in resort if you want to be close to restaurants and beach.

My family (a group of 17, including 8 children under 10) just returned from what was an incredible and unforgettable stay at Ho’Olei at Grand Wailea. Before arriving, their attentive concierge staff (Jonathan, Jennifer, Samantha, etc.) was in touch to discuss setting up dinner reservations, stocking both of our 3-bedroom villas with groceries, and helping to register for select activities. When we arrived, they warmly greeted every member of our party. Two of the staff members escorted us to our villas up the hill. One staff member (Rubi) spent at least 30 minutes calmly walking us through the villas and explaining how everything works. Meantime, her colleague, Danny, parked our vehicles and unloaded all the luggage.

The Ho’Olei - while across the street from the stunning, main hotel - is now by far my preferred spot to stay. The concierge staff communicates constantly via text message to arrange a free shuttle service (in which we never waited more than 5 minutes) or to confirm the next day’s dinner reservations. When we ran short of room keys and made mention of it to Rubi as she drove us to dinner, she asked if she might enter one of our residences as we dined to drop off new cards. We returned home to find the new keys waiting on the kitchen counter.

Access to the main hotel’s (Grand Wailea) amenities is made quite simple. You’re given a key card to access the fitness center and every member of the party is registered in the resort’s computer system. This allows Ho’Olei guests to access the many pools at Grand Wailea. They require you to wear new wristband each day so they can limit outsiders from using the pool; it’s likely they do this because the main pool gets quite crowded during the day. In fact, seating can be difficult to find unless you reserve cabanas in advanced. That said, the beauty of the Ho’Olei is that guests there have access to their own community pool and (albeit much smaller) fitness center, both of which are far less crowded.

Perhaps most notable from our trip is how the concierge team took note of small details. Two members of our family were celebrating birthdays during the visit. Not only did they alert the restaurants we dined at that night, but also we returned “home” to the villas to find special treats and cards to mark the occasions. It’s the little things that they mastered.

Never once did we encounter a moody or aggravated Ho’Olei or Grand Wailea: Waldorf Astoria employee. Everyone worked incredibly hard to make sure our vacation was both memorable and stress-free. Having traveled nonstop (for both business and pleasure) over the past 15 years, I can honestly I’ve never encountered such an experience. Moreover, it was this stay that actually motivated me to finally start a TripAdvisor account; I simply couldn’t neglect giving this team a shout-out for their warm hospitality.

Room Tip: 3-bedroom, deluxe ocean view accommodations are stunning! Wake up to the ocean and cup of coffee.

This was our second stay at Ho'olei and I have to say that it exceeded our exceptions on every level. Our guests arrived a few days later than us and Samantha provided them with a second Hawaiian welcome. (She is the absolute best!!!) The entire concierge staff was amazing throughout our entire stay. Access to the Grand Waliea resort was welcomed as our guests enjoyed access to the beach and pool areas. Our unit, (top row ocean view), was well furnished, immaculately maintained, and well stocked with every possible high end amenity that was needed. The property is well thought out and maintained, with a lovely pool area, gym, and sauna. The staff provided daily cleaning and maid service of our unit and restocked water, juices, paper towels, shampoo, and soaps. There is no better property to stay at with a large family. The town of Waliea is beautiful and close to great dining, shopping, and beaches. A truly wonderful experience!!

Room Tip: Best views of sunset are from top row units.

We stayed 7 nights in the ocean view villa. While the villa was beautiful the view should have been described as “back alley”. The view of the ocean was obstructed by the Four Seasons hotel and the Grand Wielea. While I could deal with that what was horrible was our villa had a direct view of the garbage facility for the entire complex. Trucks coming and going throughout the day dumping or picking up trash. It made what should have been a peaceful relaxing time on the lanai a noisy smelling occurrence throughout the day. Not acceptable for $1,500+ a night.
