Don't know what the hype is about this hotel. We did not stay, too expensive, we just visited during the day. Lobby super packed with people doing the same. The inside of hotel was just mediocre and looked old. Just don't get why you would pay so much to stay here.

Skip the stay at the Stanley. I would suggest walking into lobby to see it, but as for staying there, the Stanley leaves a lot to be desired. The property is literally falling to pieces. I was extremely disappointed in the maintenance of the hotel and did not feel as if I were a cherished guest. Also no central AC, and only cheap AC units in the rooms. Needs a major revamp!

This is a wonderful historic hotel, but many of the rooms are old and shabby. Our shower had a sloping roof so anyone over 6 feet find it challenging. My husband is 6’ 6” so it was very uncomfortable taking a shower.

However the employees are top-notch. They are friendly and very helpful. I’d like to give Cole a big shout out. My camera lens cap was screwed on way too tight. We put it in the refrigerator to try to loosen it. Against all odds, Cole managed to unscrew it. Without his help I would not have been able to use my camera on this trip.

A miserable excuse of a hotel.
We checked in late in the afternoon and our room was not ready, so they upgraded us from a queen to a king - except that the room was so small, that the king bed meant there was no room for luggage. There was a closet, and that was the only place you could place and open luggage (except on the bed). There was no help - and of course they blamed everything on that. We tried to get some food after 7 and found that only the main restaurant was open, but even for takeout it would be over an hour to get any food. Their snack bar had just closed, and the listed-as-open less formal restaurant hadn't been open for over a year. They had a cooler/condenser in the room to provide air conditioning, and it was vented through the window, was noisy, and it took up space in the already cramped room.
If you came for the tour, maybe you were not disappointed. But for those who expected a hotel, there was not even enough parking.
So in short they misrepresented the hotel, had no staff, and were more willing to make excuses.

Room tip: Don't stay at the Stanley

Although billed as “one of the top places to stay in Estes Park with luxury decor”, our double king room was sparsely furnished, had only one small mirror in the bathroom, and did not include sufficient space to hang wet towels for four guests. As there is no onsite support, check in and assistance can only be accomplished via the main building which is a major inconvenience. Where the details matter, the Stanley Hotel has failed to deliver. Considering that there are no notable amenities in the Aspire building (not even a mini fridge or on site coffee) and the rooftop deck is closed indefinitely, I see no compelling reason to book at this location. You can spend much less for better accommodation elsewhere.
