Honestly, this has been on my bucket list forever. My husband and i went for our 30th wedding anniversary. The front desk registration staff, Cole, was amazing and fun. It was terribly easy to park and check in all went seamlessly. This is a 120 year old establishment with a wonderful history, and they do their vert best to make you comfortable. I cannot imagine the amount of effort it takes to maintain and run such a huge, historical facility. The grounds are wonderful, the rooms are super nice and clean. I’m not sure why all the complaints. Sounds like four seasons expectations. Having stayed at the four seasons, we never have those kinds of expectations of other places. People never look at the whole picture. We appreciate everything that was offered here and was happy with our stay. If you are Stephen king fans, its totally worth it.

Room tip: This is a huge place! It’s very old with much history. Be patient and learn the grounds. It’s easy to navigate ones you know it.

Just looking at the website, one would think this property was a gem. I booked our stay based solely on the website. Huge mistake.

The website doesn’t tell you that there is NO main entrance with registration checkin. Instead, we drove around and around trying to figure that out. The second person we asked pointed us to the building with the golden spire. The entrance we found was through the area where the tours gather. Mad House. Then there was a coffee shop area to navigate. We were finally told that registration was upstairs. We took the ONLY elevator (small) up. Rude and preoccupied desk clerk. We asked about valet parking. The property is quite large and spread out and would have been so much more considerate of guests to not have to figure out where to park since most of the spaces were used by tour people, not guests at all.

No help with luggage, or availability of carts. NONE. We heard a lot of “unfortunately, at this time…” for lack of employees. We get it. They are coming off a year of CoVid like everyone else, but don’t advertise and charge for what you don’t have. Stanley is pretending to be luxury and can’t deliver. Someone finally showed up with a cart so we were able to get to our room.

TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. Dingey, aged, sparce. One positive … full-size Keurig! Drapes unhooked and sagging, window pane broken, large desk with no chair, no nightstand (I set up the ironing board for a surface), bedding felt like fine-grade sand paper. Cheap cheap cheap.

I’m not even going to go into the restaurant situation. Or lack thereof. Don’t pretend to be a luxury establishment if you can’t deliver. Be considerate of your guests and create a real front welcoming experience. You’re spread out, so provide valet. Even HOSPITALS do valet.

I’ve never been tempted to give such a negative review. The company of our daughter and her husband was the ONE bright spot. (No ghosts sighted.)

We were so excited to visit this iconic historical landmark!
The staff were very informative and courteous. They gave us information on our room which was one of the rooms with “activity”.
We took the gold elevator upstairs and were immediately captivated by the view of the courtyard from our room.
We ended up eating at the Cascades Bar downstairs in the lobby. It was delicious. The drinks definitely made it easier to relax back in our room even though it did feel very eerie throughout the night. Our room was 407 which was the room where you feel “tucked” in. Both my husband and I woke up several times throughout the night for no reason.

Room tip: It was extremely busy. We didn’t realize that the ghost tours would be going on throughout the night.

This hotel calls itself “historic” as an excuse for “poorly maintained.” We stayed in a King room the the Lodge building - and the room was not in good shape for $400+ per night. The website makes this look like an amazing property - but in reality, it’s very run down. When we complained about the room and how it didn’t match the website, the front desk told us the web is “advertising” and told us to upgrade to a suite (as added cost) if we wanted better. We would have been OK with the small room sizes given the age of the property - but these were too shabby. The first room we were in also smelled. They did move us to a room that didn’t smell as musty. But overall disappointed that management didn’t respond to feedback about the condition of the rooms when we escalated unless we agreed to spend more and upgrade. Especially given the price. We were extremely disappointed. Stay elsewhere.

Do not waste your money. Costs a fortune to stay here, rooms are old and need serious help. Our closet door is warped and wouldn't close. Staff did not seem to care. Very unfriendly and not helpful. We had 2 rooms, same name and type of room plus same price, yet beds in 1 room were huge, and room itself, and other room was so tiny we barely fit and beds were only double size. Staff did not seem to care, nothing they can do I was told. We had no coffee cups in our room, asked for some, 2 hours later still had none. I get it, all businesses are struggling now with no workers, but when you pay this much to stay at a hotel, you should be getting great service and a quality room. Very disappointed. Save your $$.
