The Casitas at Smokey Springs Ranch
Reviewed 30 September 2015

We arrived to 100F heat and as advertised the door to our unit Rain Catcher was open and the unit was very clean and well equipped. We didn't see the owner Beth until day 2 when she dropped by and fortunately she loaned us an umbrella to cope with the aforementioned rain. Our plan for the week was to see all Tucson had to offer and visit local sites. It was perfect as a home base and we visited the Mission San Xavier, Santa Rita Mtns to the south, Bisbee & Tombstone, The Tucson Desert Museum and the drive up Mt. Lemmon and Rincon Canyon. The desert atmosphere was great and the provided grill was great to cook our own meals at the end of the day. Our only complaint had nothing to do with the accommodation it was that the 4 other casitas were unoccupied due to the early season timing and we didn't meet anybody. At the end of the day the spool was excellent to refresh with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down across the mountains.

This year we stayed in Storm Catcher for a week at the start of our holiday. It was the first week in May & we had hoped to find the cacti in full bloom, Unfortunately we missed it by a week or so. What a place to relax & watch the wild life & birds in your back garden. I found a humming bird feeder in the shed attached to the casita, filled it up & within less than a half minute, there was a hummingbird feeding. This is an excellent location for visiting the Saguaro National Park (East Rincon),Mount Lemmon, Sabino & Bear Canyon. Once again the casita was beautifully furnished & well equipped. Perhaps we need a third visit to make sure we like it.

We stayed in the smaller casita which was just lovely, clean, comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen. Staying here saves you the trip to the Desert Museum. At breakfast it is a pleasure to watch all the wildlife around you, playing between the numerous saguaro cacti, mesquite trees and bushes. Many nice touches, such as the firewood for the outdoor chimenea. After filling the hummingbird feeders it was a blast to watch the woodpeckers trying to get to the sugary treat. Fabulous place!

We stayed at the Casitas again this year; we have been coming for a number of years and accommodate our travel schedule to the availability of our favorite casita. This year we stayed in March for a warm week with beautiful sunsets. The casitas are arranged on this ranch site with lots of privacy, set in the beautiful natural setting of the desert. Our favorite pastime is watching all the quail, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, road runners and ground squirrels who visit every day. Generous owners Beth and Bob make sure everything is in great shape and then they turn over the place to you to enjoy.

Room Tip: Decide on the size needed; these casitas are all perfect for 2 people and some have capacity for a l...

If your idea of a Tucson vacation includes a beautiful, private dwelling in the desert, with all the comforts of home...an outstanding view...location near restaurants and shops yet complete privacy...then you must visit the Casitas. Beth and Bob have lavished loving care on these casitas (Spanish for "little houses"). We stayed in the Desert Sun casita. Great care had been taken in the furnishings, including a Sleep Number master bed, two reclining chairs in the living room, authentic western art and decorations -- even little things like kitchen accessories and a makeup towel in the bathroom.

Through the years, we've stayed in many places in Tucson, including a couple of B&Bs. This is by far the best.

There's a beautifully landscaped outdoor spa area and putting green. And I loved visiting Beth & Bob's animals: horse, donkey, mule, goats, sheep, and chickens.

The property is just 3 miles from the Saguaro East national park, with its paved road through a stunning desert landscape.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Tucson now that we know about the Casitas.
