Description: The Famous Green Chile Cheeseburgers are back! John and Bonnie Eckre, formerly of Bobcat Bite, are taking their food to the next level at the new Santa Fe Bite located inside Garrett's Desert Inn on Old Santa Fe Trail. In addition to their savory Green Chile Cheeseburgers, Santa Fe Bite features fresh tacos, fish and chips, sandwiches, a choice of French or sweet potato fries and a little something they like to call 'The Big Bite' that comes with a side of buttery garlic bread. Creamy milkshakes and homemade lemonade are just some of the sweet treats popping up on their new menu. Also, we are now serving beer and wine. Santa Fe Bite opens at 8am Saturday and Sunday which means early birds can sample tasty Breakfast menu offerings like hot cornmeal pancakes with maple syrup, brioche French toast with maple caramel sauce and house-made biscuits with Mom's gravy. Spend a leisurely Sunday outside at Santa Fe Bite. The new Brunch menu includes eggs benedict, Steak & Eggs and Huevos Rancheros.

Various Food Network hosts and other food-lebrities have been through Santa Fe Bite in one of it’s manifestations to wax poetic on the quality and virtues of that old New Mexico staple: the green chile cheeseburger. So, like the sheep I usually fight so hard not to be, I made the pilgrimage to its location at the Desert Inn and decided to drink the proverbial Kool-Aid. Now, some of these food show hosts are little more than sherpas who, with the assistance of lighting designers, cameramen and usually some gruff woman in a low ponytail and work boots of some unknown provenance working in some unknown capacity. The hosts frame of eedeeemce may occasionally by a bit sketchy or subject to the lore and reputation of locals that, frankly, just may not really amount to much. This was not the case! Th burger was impossibly big, cooked to perfection, juicy and worth the 6-14 napkins it took to eat in public. In a sandwich with multiple potentially aggressive flavors, they all worked in unison, making each other better for the effort they made properly melding together. After a morning of hiking Bandelier and an afternoon of wrestling kids at the free Dia de Muertos celebration at the Folk Art Museum with nothing but a solitary slice of gluten-free toast that morning to sustain me. I was ready to eat like it was my job and the bacon green Chile burger was so wonderful, I finally understood all the fuss and now, thanks to Tripadvisor, I’m doing part to preach the gospel of this beefy behemoth!

Enough said! Went for the green chili bacon cheeseburger and left a satisfied customer. It's casual dining, but good. They offer all the burgers in a six and ten ounce option... the six was enough.

We visited this restaurant last year and tried it again this year. The decor is interesting. We cam especially because of our experience last year with the green chili cheese burger.
We has a problem this year with one burger. Half of the bottom bun was missing and the part that was there was soggy. We called over the waiter to explain the problem. He offered to take half of the burger back to the kitchen for repairs. We decided it was better to keep the burger and let them prepare another bottom. The bun never came out of the kitchen. We asked for the manager and he offered to credit us $1 to rectify the problem which according to him was the value of the bun. We indicated we were expecting to be credited for 1/2 of the cost of the burger since we had to eat half that was not per our order. He left indicating $1 was fair from his perspective. We saw that he was not willing to negotiate so we simply indicated we would not be back and would be sure to explain our experience on Trip Advisor. He came back with an adjusted bill which did reflect our original request for and adjustment of 1/2 the burger.
This met our original request. So in the end the manager went beyond his original offer in an attempt to reach a compromise which met our original request . So we have to acknowledge the manager in the end did go beyond his original position the help resolve our concerns.

Other persons in our party had positive experiences.

The Green Chile Burger is one of the best I have had. Cooked to your liking. On the other hand the Chicken Sandwich was dry and the blended cheese toping had a bitter taste (don't get the chicken). The fries were not so hot but the Chips were great. Good selection of beers.
