Description: Gabriel’s, serving food of the Southwest and Old Mexico — renowned in New Mexico — is considered one of the best restaurants in America by Zagat. The personal attention to service and food is what makes Gabriel’s special: a place where little touches enhance your whole dining experience. Guacamole made tableside. Freshly squeezed lime margaritas made with gold tequila. Handmade corn tortillas. An authentic mix of modern and classic Mexican and Southwestern dishes and seasonal specials.

It’s a way from Santa Fe center but a very nice drive past Camel Rock. On the two way feeder we almost missed it.
Patio was great and food, including the table side guacamole, with extra jalapeños for a little extra crunch. The “Picante” marg was very good. Food, excellent but the flies were overwhelming. We had noticed they were bad overall in Santa Fe this year and unfortunately they made this restaurant “memorable”. If they can take care of this issue this deserves a definite repeat visit.

Funky, sprawling, and very crowded on an early Friday evening for the 9 of us. We had reservations so we were seated promptly. Our waiter was quick with a drink order of sangria, silver margarita, prickly pear margarita and many more choices. Kept our water filled!! Order the table side guacamole and put everything in it!! The salsa is also good, a bit of heat.
Several combination plates were ordered as well as crab enchiladas and sea food fajitas. Black bean enchiladas were just on the plate. Nothing earth shaking. The sea food fajitas were on a mound of sautéed onion. A bit too much as most was left on the plate. I had the cheese enchilada and tamale combo plate, with both red and green. Could not really see the green. The red was good, not a lot of garnish, with refried beans (good) with some corn on the side. The tamale was served in the corn husk with no chile and while meaty it as a bit fry. Forgot to ask for a sopa. Most everyone had some small white tortillas to accompany their fajita plates and all had a nice side plate of garnish. Coffee was served quickly with real cream and flan was shared by several. A nice meal but in a very noisy restaurant where we were near a dish washing station. Nice art on the walls. Moderately priced. It’s my sisters favorite restaurant.

Nice patio but flies in abundance. Food ordinary at best. Surly food server. Not worth the drive. Hokey, noisy table side guacamole cart.

We like to stop by on the way back from Taos. The high desert view out back is nice. The fajitas are good, along with the best guacamole ever. And pretty good margaritas although not as good now as they used to be.

Nothing changes about GABRIELS. The staff is perennially smiley, and happy to be there and serve you. Prices are moderate but I think more than reasonable for the food and portions. Everything is fresh tasting and home made, the made at your table guacamole is a must. It’s worth the ride if you’re coming from town, and if you’re out here, you’ll be there more than once. A great weekend and afternoon hang, and glorious at night. Gets busy, and with families.
