Gorgeous place. Everything you need was already there.. A great relaxing getaway. Looking forward to visiting again soon
This cottage came with everything we needed, to include a well-stocked kitchen, coffee, videos, board games, and firewood kept dry in the barn for a fire. The only downsides were that the front door was a little drafty which kept the top floor noticeably hotter than the bottom floor. Rooms were comfortable and the train was far enough away to not cause any disturbances while we slept. There were a number of lady bugs in one room but not enough to be considered pests.
What a find! This place was perfect for our vacation needs. We had 7 adults, 1 4 yr old, 3 dogs and a cat. Everyone had a blast!. We hiked some Shenandoah trails, we biked around the area, we kayaked down the river. We grilled out, played in the hot tub, and totally relaxed. We turned the dining room table into the jigsaw puzzle area (which kept people up into the wee hours of the night just to find that right piece).
It came with all the amenities we needed. And did not even need to turn on the tv. I hope it works! Thank you for such a fantastic time.
The house is very charming. We enjoyed the spacious land and just relaxing for a few days. The owners have the home well stocked. There are paper towels, napkins, towels, sheets, toilet paper, and laundry detergent. It was the items we were glad we did not have to buy. My only complaint is the living room furniture. It is very uncomfortable. Otherwise our stay was great!
Our party of six plus one dog stayed here for three amazing and peaceful nights. To say we LOVED IT is an understatement. We hated to leave! Our daughter and her husband had planned to leave Sunday afternoon since they both had to work the following morning. The thought of leaving upset them so much, they decided to stay the night and get up very early the next morning to make the 3.5 hour trip back to their home.
The property is well maintained and so beautiful! It sits on ten acres overlooking the mountains and valley. You have the place to yourself and don't see another house, though there are some folks living further up the dirt driveway/road and down on the main road. We loved the spaciousness of both the inside and outside. There are both a fire pit and hot tub, and each were made use of by family members. Our dog (and us!) loved the large yard to romp around in.
The three bedrooms are nicely sized and very attractive. The bathroom, which is huge, contains a huge shower as well as an old time claw bathtub.
As others have mentioned, the photos don't do it justice. I'd post photos of the place if I could. The house itself has knotty pine interior making for a cozy cabin feel. The kitchen, dining room and living room are all spacious allowing for folks to spread out a bit, yet the floor plan is fairly open so you don't feel isolated from each other when you're in different rooms of the house.
We loved the wrap around porch and made use of it often throughout our visit. The front half is covered, while the side section remains out in the open. This is especially nice when sitting in the hot tub at night and you can take in the multitude of stars. Make sure you check out the night sky. Being away from the city lights makes them pronounced.
Though the house sits alone on the hillside, you're far from being isolated from the world. The town is a short 10 minute drive and the entrance to Skyline Drive is 15 minutes away. You couldn't ask for a better location.
There is no question that we'll be renting this house again. It exceeded our expectations, and was difficult to drive away from when our stay was over.
NOTE TO NAVY FOLKS STATIONED IN VIRGINIA BEACH: This house is within the range required when you take days off, but must remain within a certain radius of the base. This is one thing we had to ensure when finding a place to vacation since my son-in-law is active duty.
