Attraction details
Owner description: Enjoy nature hikes, walking, running, bicycling, or in-line skating along the 12 miles of riverside trails which consist of the Stones River, Lytle Creek and Gateway trails. Small watercraft access points are also available for paddlers to enjoy the Stones River. The Murfreesboro Greenway System connects historical sites, parks, neighborhoods and businesses; it also serves as a conservation corridor to preserve precious natural and cultural resources. Eleven trailheads provide access to the Murfreesboro Greenway System.

Although the greenway goes right through town, it meanders along the river and makes it seem like you are out in the country for much of the way. It's a great place to walk, take your dog swimming (and there is a bark park), or bike. The new section in Walter Hill is a hilly one, with views of an old dam. It's a great place to see birds.

We walked to the Greenway Trails @ 1208 Searcy which was 1.2 miles from our hotel. There is free parking and no entry fee. It connects to other trials and offers a dog park. It's a nice place to go jogging or take a leisure walk.

I would have given this a 5...but, more on that later. We love the ability to go our own pace and chat in near total privacy...except for an occasional critter or two. There are multiple "greens" for your location and distance...trailhead to trailhead. Depending on your entry point there may be different accommodations for kids, bathroom breaks, etc. Things are generally well kept and not at all crowded during the week days (sans the school schedule). Now the bad...security can be lax. Please check with a park official or police officer regarding patrols, your ability to carry weapons, etc. Some of the trails can be pretty deep in the wilds with little or no traffic...that's good and bad. So...always be aware and have a great afternoon...or, a beautiful morning stroll. Wild flowers, birds, water cascading, bridges...ah, the smell is the fresh outdoors!

The recently added dog park at the Cason Lane Trail head is very nice. There were several people there in Tuesday during the afternoon, but it was certainly not crowded. The dogs- and their owners- were having a great time.
