Everyone who visits Newport should take this drive. Do it off season and in the middle of the week, when you can take your time without causing a major traffic jam or an accident.
The views should not be missed. Mansions, crashing waves, beautiful ocean, blue skies, heaven on Earth.

Yes, the private mansions take up a lot of the ocean view, but they're kinda cool too! And the spots in between offer beautiful views of the ocean and other natural sites that the preservationists have been protecting. There are pull off places worth stopping at and walking around. A photo bonanza!

When you take this drive prepared to slow down (pull over and let the other cars pass) so that you catch glimpses of the mansions - sometimes nestled behind hedges and high fences - and the water. There is a state park where you can pull off and climb on rocks, sit and have a picnic, watch people flying kites or just enjoy the tranquil ocean front. The building at the park has restrooms. It is a trash in/trash out state park. There are no trash cans. They ask that anything you bring in, you take out when you leave.

Ocean drive is about seeing the beauty and power of the seas, wind, and man’s attempt to habitate in very large domains, lots of bucks here
Whenever I visit Newport ocean drive is a must to watch kites being flown, anglers scrambling along the rocks trying to land a monster fish, and folks just walking, running or gazing at this beautiful spot, gaze over at beaver tail lighthouse in Jamestown, find Narragansett shores to the far west. Head up to the mansions on Bellevue. It’s worth the time to explore
